How to Modify OS week 5 for Turkey Day Race

Howdy Coach P!  I'm going to be doing a 4.7mi Turkey Day road race on the Thursday of my Week 5 of the OS and wondering how to tweak the plan to accommodate.  (I'm also doing the Run Focus modification) 

Also, I'm doing this "Endurance Challenge" at work and I'm tied for the lead so I need to add some extra mileage.  (Any sport will do!)  Here's the thread:

Any thoughts on how to do this smartly?  I was thinking of adding a mile or two of swimming per week (just nov/dec) and maybe some extra Z2/3 bike on non-bike days (after run).  I know the OS is tough so I don't want to compromise it, but I'm thinking low intensity won't kill me?

  • This is so timely... I need to post the official Turkey Day modification. Here are your options:

    #1 - Want to crush / do best at race.
    * Make Wednesday a light run day of 30' with some strides.
    * Thursday Race.
    * Friday is the Thursday Bike.
    * Saturday and Sunday as planned.

    #2 - Just running and suffering, thanks!
    * Move Thursday bike to Wed AM (yes, back to back Tues/Wed bikes)
    * Race Thursday.
    * Friday off, Sat and Sun as planned.

    I think the extra swimming is fine, but there is no way that Zone3 cycling is "low intensity" -- you are truly a monster. Bonus cycling is Zone 1 time only. Have fun and play along, but let's not undermine the good work you are doing right now by following rules set by others!
