Brent's macro thread
Rich, I have two goals this year. One is to race the st. George half iM. The other is to qualify for Boston. I know you don't like mixing marathon's with long distance tri's, none the less Boston is my top priority. Saint George is the first Saturday in May, I am looking fat three different marathons, the first is at the end on January, the second is the end of June and the last is the first Saturday in October. I want to run at least two of the marathons in case I have a bad race.
Can you please help me with a training plan that meets these goals. My weakness on for IM's has always been the bike. I have a. Erg strong run off the bike, my goal for Saint George is a 2:40 run. It should be possible if I don't blow out my legs on the bike.
Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent,
Sorry, I'm confused. To lay this out on the calendar you're talking about:
I want to do two marathons in case I have a bad race so I could drop either the January or late June marathon. I do plan on doing several shorter distance tri's through out the year, but they will be just for fun and won't be close to the big race dates.
Thank you for your help.
Ok, then next week, on 11/25, load up the marathon plan to end on your January marathon. There's enough time between _that_ race and IMSG, and the marathon is an important goal for you, that you can train like a marathoner, BQ, get that out of the way and move on.
So train for and race the Jan marathon. Then circle back to me and we'll talk about how to transition from there to IMSG.
My run has improved dramatically over the last year, 15min marathon PR, with an increase of tempo runs. I feel comfortable with my run speed, but need to improve my swim and bike. I read Mike Roberts swim steps and have started to work on my form. I am hoping to be able to make improvements in my bike comparable with what I have done in my run. I tend to be my own worst enemy pushing to hard and injurying myself, just when I start seeing real gains. Advice and direction is greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a big year! Please submit this to me as TSR so I can plan everything out for you. Short answer is that I'd like you to be as close to 100% as possible by the start of OS in a few weeks.
