Running shoes/orthodics
Hello everyone!
So I am seeking advice on choosing a new running shoe. Background: I have always suffered from severe pronation and knee issues (had a knee surgery years ago). I had been using superfeet inserts to help with stabilizing my foot and always bought a motion control sneaker. My doctor recommended I go to orthodics to help. I have read reviews some say its a waste of money, but others swear by them. I just decided at this point it was time to try something to help. I got the orthodics and they came in yesterday! I need to get new sneakers now! I can't wear them in my stability/ motion-control shoes. Does anyone have a good neutral running shoe they like? I have been reading reviews online but thought why not ask my EN team?!? ANY advice/suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Hi Laura! Before going back to school and getting my master's in education (now a first grade teacher) I was in running speciality for 12+ years. I have actually been working on a basic "shoe guide" to post somewhere in the Endurance Nation website in hopes that it may help out a few team members with questions or even educate some members about running shoes. So I decided to attach it here in hopes that it may help you! (I hope it's attached!)
With regard your specific question, a shoe that jumps out at me that accepts orthotics well, and is a neutral shoe, is the Brooks Dyad. (I think they are on the Dyad 7!) It is the same shape as the beefy Brooks Beast/Ariel, but without any medial posting to help with severe over-pronation. Which I assume your orthotic is trying to take care of.......
As always, everyone's foot and needs are different. Go to a running store to try on as many different types of shoes you can (bring your old running shoes, running socks, and orthotics with you) to find the right shoe for you. Taking the extra time now will save you from possible injury or getting the wrong shoe. (Even if you are going to order online, go to a brick and mortar to try them on.)
Hope this helps.

@ Peter- THANK YOU!!! Your feedback is so appreciated! And the document attached is VERY helpful! I am going to head to the store this week and just start trying shoes on! I will def look into the Brooks...That's what I have right now, except they are motion control shoes. Thanks again I will let you know how it goes!
P.S. I am a second grade teacher.... best job in the world
