The Best 9,331 English Language Films

If you like films, or eccentrics, or even eccentric films, go to this web site. Be forewarned - it’s constructed with technology left over from 1995. Meaning it’s a home page with links to three (count ‘em, 3) Microsoft Word documents. That’s it.

BUT ... one of those Word docs is a list of 9,331 English language movies IN ORDER. Precisely, "The Best, Most Important and the Most Beloved English Language Films of the 20th Century".

  • Wow, he's got Childs Play 2 "Revenge of Chucky" at 9,166.  A little high for my taste

OTOH, Starship Troopers only being at 2,403 is a travesty.  That's easily among the top 1,000, if not higher.

  • Ah Starship Troopers, nominated for an Academy Award in 1998! Good stuff.
  • 1439 movies better than Raising Arizona? And Strictly Ballroom at 1103 over Slap Shot at 1355? I cry foul.

Kudos to Breaker Morant at 67 though.
  • With Apocalypse Now at #87 I am happy. Any movie that starts off with the Doors singing The End goes to the top of the list in my book.

Of course Valley of the Dolls coming it at 6199 was a bit disappointing but Performance (starring Mick Jagger as a retired rock star who encounters James Fox a guy hiding from the mob) coming in at 2184 brought my spirits back up some.

And with Goldfinger, the best James Bond movie of all time at 356, the list seems fair to me.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, at 210, is one classic western and rightfully deserves its high ranking.

I haven't seen it in years but always remember the water buffalo... Still a great movie although the movie about the movie (and the back story with brando, sheen etc) is even more interesting.

Interesting to see how far down shawshank is considering it is way way way higher on like IMDB etc. Also impressed at LA confidential being as high as it was. Seven being 308 is a travesty LOL (not to mention fight club being mid 600's).

Hell of a project to put it together!

  • Humm, I am a little embarrassed that I have seen many of the films on the last page, some in the theater... the last five (or ten) are classics in their own right.
