Bike training zones

Hello Rich,
I feel like my power zones on bike maybe little lower than should because I am having trouble keeping power down for the way they are set now. Don't wanna get way in plan with zones to low so what would be a good percentage to raise them ?

Thanks. Chan

If you really feel that your power zones are too low you can always just redo the power test in place of an interval session. Moving this to the power/pace forum where you'll get more eyeballs on it.

  • Hi Chan,

Are you basing your current numbers off your power test? If so, then how did that test go? One thing to shy away from is what you think you can ride for power vs. what you actually do ride for power. This is a very important lesson in EN--you earn the right to ride faster by proving it during a test. It directly translates to race day where you see many people riding their "could" bike time vs. their "should" bike time---could=walking the marathon while "should"=setting yourself up for a great IM marathon. As Coach Rich said, retest if you think they are too low in order to prove your hypothesis.
  • I feel like maybe my zone 4 power should be zone 3 bc once I get into zone 4 I'm jumping into zone 5 with not much effort @ all.
