perform vs EFS

I see a lot of people posting about both Ironman Perform and EFS. Is this just a preference issue? in the past I've always gone with efs

  • I chose Perform because it is what is on the course at IM events. Simplifies nutrition a ton- don't have to carry your own bottles or worry if a bottle falls off or anything like that, just drink from the course. I train with it to get use to it. Not sure how it compares to EFS but Perform also has a lot more sodium than most sports drinks. I believe there is a whole comparison of stuff somewhere on the wiki, or maybe in that Core Diet Race Fueling webinar.
  • My .02 is that after weighing everything out, on course nutrition as Rachel mentions being one of the issues, it's a preference thing. I Will add that while I like EFS a lot, I've found that when I use a lot of it, like in a 4-5 hr. ride, I tend to have some rumbling in my gut later in the day and even some loose stools with that. The only thing I can attribute that to is the Vit. C that they add to it(wish they simply wouldn't add it). That's may not be the case with your or even the vast majority of people, as everyone is different....hence we need to test, test, test!
  • I will say though that the taste of the Perform I mix is very different than the ready to drink bottles they have on course. Not sure why, I follow the 3 scoops/24 oz thing, but that did surprise me my first sip on course!
  • x2 Rachel.  Very different taste, and I mix it exactly as instructed too.
