Susan Ogilvie Macro Thread

Hi Rich,

I got my revised season roadmap and I just had a question.  It says to load Run Durability3 on 12/23 to end on 1/19, but to load outseason to start on 1/6.  What would you like me to do about the overlap-- outseason or finish RD3?

Also, for the GRP pacing on the runs, should I have done/be doing a run test to get my pacing zones?  Should I do that right now before I start RD 2?

Let me know-- now I am going to have A LOT of running in sunny southern CA on vacation this week! YAY!

Thanks!  Susan

  • Hey Susan,

Each of those RD plans is 4wks but I need to give you 6wks worth of workouts. So you're going to load up RD#1 today and when you finish that you'll load up RD #2 to end on Jan 19th. You'll do 2wks of that and then, on Jan 6th, load up the OS plan to end on 4/13. The OS plan will then replace the RD#2 plan and you'll be all set.

Zones: do you feel you "need" to do testing right now to set your zones? It's probably a good idea if doing so is simple and doable for you.

  • I think I can answer my own question- I just do part of rd 3 and then start os on jan 6? If so- sorry for the additional reading.... image thanks!
  • Hi Coach R,

Ok-- not sure if this goes in the micro- or macro- forum-- so feel free to move it.

Per the recommendation to do a 1/2 marathon at the end of the OS (end of March for me), should I do one right at the end of OS, or at the end of "swim camp" 2 weeks later... races are filling up so I guess I should make a plan-- there's a 1/2 on both dates, so just let me know when you have a chance.

    Thanks! Susan

  • A half marathon to close out OS Wk14 would be ideal, then roll from that into the Swim Camp training plan.
  • Hey Coach R,

I am seeing everyone saying "OS Wk 14.." and realizing the OS runs 14 weeks.  I went back to my revised road map from 11/7/13, and I see OS scheduled to finish up 4/13/14, but "Swim Camp" to start week of 3/31/14.  So that would make my OS 12 weeks.  I am just double checking that I should wrap up OS at 12 weeks, start swim camp at what would be week 13, then roll into 1/2 Iron Plan after that to end 6/22/13?

Also, do I need to submit a new season planning survey if I have added a half marathon at end of "my" OS (on 3/30/14), and one of my early season races was cancelled, or can I just juggle it all around?  My only question is how close to 1/2 Iron (6/22/14) can I schedule in a sprint or Olympic?

Thanks! I know you are super busy, so I will just keep doing the work -- no rush.  Susan

Yes, I'm pulling you out of the OS early so I can move you into SC and then HIM plans.

No need to submit a half marathon. I believe Patrick may have something in the wiki re how to modify a plan for race week of a half marathon. I'd prefer you to not schedule an Oly closer than 5-6wks out from an HIM. That is prime race-specific training time. Not a deal breaker, however.

  • Coach R,

I am in HIM plan week 15.  Moved my RR #1 to this weekend (tomorrow) with life schedules and per guidance in the Wiki.  I realize I haven't scheduled a race yet before my HIM. Would you recommend I do a race before my HIM?  I could do a sprint next weekend or possibly the weekend after, plus RR #2 I am scheduling a day (6/6 as opposed to 6/7ish) early as husband is racing on RR2 day. So RR 1- 5/17, RR 2 6/6, Race day 6/22.

I am just wondering, as I can't find notes as to what your recommendation in the webinar was. Additionally, I feel like I am walking a fine line between overdoing it and making performance breakthroughs, so not sure if a sprint would help or hurt and how to replace a weekend WKO day with a race. If this belongs in the micro, let me know. Thanks, Susan

  • You don't "need" to race. Do you "want" to race? In the end that's what it's really all about. And if you do, the scheduling of RR#1 isn't super critical so that can be move forward or backwards on the calendar to accommodate the race.

See the Self-Coaching Guide in the Self-Coaching section of the wiki for a very detailed discussion of modifying weeks for races.

    Good luck!
