ZIPP 60's

Hey all,

I have a chance to get a pair of Zipp 60's for like $800.  Is it worth it?  Or should i spend a little extra and get some Flo's?  Thoughts?

  • IMHO Zipp 60s are old technology with a very narrow 18.6 mm brake track. To be aero you would need to run a narrow tire, like 20mm, which are much less available than 23mm tires (forget about Continental GP 4000s). The newer rims are designed for wider tires and have less drag than the old technology. If I were buying I would either buy a new Flo, recent HED, or Zipp firecrest. These all use the wider rim technology and have data to support their claims--mostly. BTW, I ride on a set of HED Jet race wheels.
  • If you are thinking Zipp Firecrest, then look at Enve's ... arguably a superior wheelset.  I have two sets of Enve's and did a lot of research before buying.  Both times I came to the conclusion that Enve's are better, but not by much.
