mutiple races
my A race is Louisville IM aug 29, how many other races should I do with distances between olympic, half iron and biathlon between now and then

Mike, what's your racing background? Have you done a bunch of tris, etc, or will this be one of your first? If you haven't done many, you may want to try to schedule a few more early, just to get transitions under your belt, and feel comfortable.
Since you're doing Lou, you probably ought to find an early season race to look forward to (maybe a HIM) with some down time before the 12 week build to Lou.
BTW, I don't think that cross-country skiing and shooting is all that good training for an IM . Now, a duathlon, that can be lots of fun!
Mike
For me it is nice to have a smaller race to break up the training regimen. Maybe add an Olympic or two in there to help with the race simulation dates you would use to prepare for LVILLE.
With me it is fun to get out and race and test myself before gearing up for your "A" race. I need to break up the training schedule and add races to change up the scenery. I agree with Mike, it depends on your race experience and how comfortable you are with all aspects of the race, being comfortable with transitions and honing your race execution skills will better prepare you for LVILLE.
If you want to have the best possible race at LV then my recomendation would be to focus on doing the 12 week IM plan as written. Adding races in will most likely take away from your training because they will either require taper time before or recover time after.
Stay away for HIM during IM prep. If you race it at HIM paces, you will need to recover after and therefore miss out on IM training. If you race it at IM paces, it is kind of a waste of time and money when you can just do the workout in the IM plan instead.
You could probably slip in a sprint or olympic if you really want to race during the 12 week IM plan, but the race will likely be less benefical to you than if you had just done the workouts in the plan.
All that said, any time before the 12 week IM plan ... race as much as you want to and have some fun.
