Brian Spurlock-Micro Thread

Patrick,

I'm currently working on Run Durability 1 and have a question about "Goal Race Pace."  Many of the runs dictate pacing the run at "goal race pace."  Based off of previous race experience, my goal race pace is going to chang drastically from now unitl race day.  Question is, which goal race pace should I use?  Should I aim to run at HMP for my Tues, WED and SUN runs according to what my HMP is right now, or what it has been in the past on race day?  Make sense?

Thx,

Brian

  • @Brian, per our racing system, there is no HMP for racing. Zone 1 = Ironman Pace, Zone 2 = Half Iron Pace. The key with the RDP isn't about running to some desired pace (one day I will go sub 3:10 in an Ironman marathon) but rather more effective running at paces you ALREADY can handle (you have a vDOT of 50 but on race day you consistently run 4 to 6 points LOWER than that).

that said, I get what you mean about paces now vs RD...if we are talking Z1 and Z2, you should be all set...please let me know if we need to dig in more!
