  • Just curious to know who is in for this? I think it may be too close to IMMT. Also, is Eagleman not sold out yet? Not that I want to do it. Just wondering what that means if it didn't sell out right away.
  • I think the proximity to NYC will mean this race will sell out quickly.
  • It is about 1 month after IMMT. This past season I did IMMT and then the Mightyman Montauk 70.3 on Sept 29th, 5 weeks later. It was a hilly course, no pushover, but I took 20 minutes off my HIM PR anyway. First time under 5:30 for that distance. Have no fear. :-)
  • FYI, if you do NOT sign up for this race through early registration, you will NOT get into this race. There is a high probability that this race sells out before it officially opens to the public.
  • JW Why do you think it would sell out BEFORE general registration. I cant see how WTC would let that happen. It would be sticking it to anyone who is not in the clique er club. Personally  I think the early favored registration is really unfair. It is bad enough trying to go through the Active entry process.
  • Because we're not the only club that this was offered to. Why do you think IM Chatanooga sold out so quickly. The WTC is running a business. It's good publicity when their races sell out so quickly. What better way to "reward" your best customers by giving them some "advantage" of having early registration. And I think the WTC considers hardcore triathletes in tri clubs, etc to be their best repeat customers. I was simply posting that message as a P.S.A. And yes, they will likely open up general registration, but they won't tell anyone that there are only a couple of slots left and it will likely sell out right away. Jess and I are affiliated with the Central Jersey Tri Club. The CJTC (and pretty much every tri club within 5 hours of the race) also got this look on early entry. I think the CJTC has almost 50 people signing up early, many of whom became members of the tri club just to get the early entry to that race. And I'm sure they are not unique.

I was simply saying if you want to do the race, use the early entry option. A week after the race "officially" opens to the public, there is 0% chance that there will still be regular slots open. Why wait is all I'm saying. Either sign up early, or don't complain if you get shut out.
  • I was merely asking you why you thought it will fill before registration opened. This is why I hate to even post on this board worse than Slowtwitch at times. Just because I am new and don't have 5 stars next my name doesn't mean I am a freaking idiot. I have been in this sport for over 20 years. The reason I was asking was because the IMCHO situation pissed a lot of people off because they had no chance of getting in. WTC had to scramble to make it right for them by giving access to other races.
  • This is NOT ST. And I was not intending to ruffle any feathers. So full apologies if I did. I was simply trying to give a full and thoughtful answer to your thoughtful question. You have every right (and are certainly encouraged) to post your thoughts and opinions anywhere in EN, especially if it makes the discussion deeper or broader.

This actually came up at our house this weekend when a friend from the CJTC was over to visit Jess after her surgery. Our friend got to talking about how many people had joined the tri club in the last week simply to get early access to that race. This girl is on the Board and knows the people who run many of the other local tri clubs and she said they were seeing the same thing. When I saw Brenda's post on the Dashboard I figured I share with my P.S.A. I am not willing to opine on whether or not the early admittance process is fair or unfair, simply that it is happening again so we as a team should plan accordingly.
  • I know several of the execs at WTC. One in particular said it really caused some big issues  because of the covert way they offered the slots and they would not open the floodgates again for early registration. I am really surprised they are doing it again.  I have an email into him to see what he thinks. I am also curious how BIG this race will be. I know at Augusta WTC was told by the city that they could have as many entrants as they wanted as long as they replace all the grass in the Transition areas. Three years later I think there was 5,000 signed up in 2013.
  • Seriously thinking about, I used to live very close to it. What ever happened to the "sign up' form we were asked to submit 2 weeks ago or so if we were interested? Will this be open to all of EN, or just those who returned the sign up form?

  • @ Robert - it is only 14 days after IMMT WC 70.3.

@ Ray - Regardless of all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over IMCHAT registration, I think John is correct. What big issues did it cause other than a lot of grumbling? WTC wants races to sell out as early as possible. And WTC is the one that created the club competition system, so any Execs implying that they would not repeat early registrations for club members look to me as if they are talking out of both sides of their mouth. Look at what they did at IMAZ this year opening up Community Foundation slots before general entry was sold out.

Regardless...I have NO interest in Princeton, but unfair or not, it is nice to be offered early entry if I wanted it. And there are plenty of races that don't sell out immedately.

Jan, if you're interested in registering early you need to submit your info via that form (sorry, I don't know where it is). We submit that list to WTC and they contact you directly, I believe, with instructions for registering.

  • PM has been sent to Jan, but it is also above in the top thread.
  • Folks - just got this email from Triclub program from Liz Kollar

Hi Guys - just sent an email to your athletes letting them know that the VIP link was on the way and that they should get it by 6 pm this eve. I did get a couple of bounceback emails so you might just reach out to your folks and let them know that if they don't receive the link and its not in their junk mail, they should email me asap from another email address if possible and we will send the link again tomorrow.

Here email is elizabeth.kollar@ironman.com. Make sure you put Early Registration for Princeton in the subject line and let her know you are from Endurance Nation.

I often have strong opinions about things...  Which means I am supposed to also admit when they are wrong.  I still believe that there was very little harm in signing up early as there is little downside to this benefit received from being a member of Ironman's #1 tri club.   BUT, registration for this race is still open (after 2.5 weeks) so my "0% chance" would have cost me a lot of money if I were a betting man.

You weren't wrong. It is just that there are so many variables on these races. Lord knows how many participants they are letting in.

I spoke to one of the WTC VP's I know just before registration opened and he said he thought it would do well because of the area but also said the 70.3 registrations don't have the hysteria of the 140.6 races. However they are really high on the race. This might be there shot back to Challenge for Atlantic City. I wouldn't be surprised to see them somehow change this into a 140.6 in the future.
