So what would you do with your hour

So wondering how other members in the Haus would utilize 1hr training time....in this scenario..................

Your schedule calls for a bike session (high priority) of approx. 1hr. (including warmup+MS+short cooldown) and 30-40min. of running (low priority)...........but you only have 1hr available............do you-

a.) do warmup + MS (say 40-45min)...then run 15-20?

b.) do a full bike session..and just skip the run

Thoughts?

  • B.

Get a full, complete, quality bike session.
  • x2 pick one, get a quality wko.

  • Depends on how good your running is. If it's a limiter, don't skip it--it is for me, and I really try not to miss them. I'd make the bike shorter, but jack the intensity. Thus, if the MS on the trainer is 2x20, you might do 5 min warmup, 1x20 @ 100-105 percent ftp and then run for 20 minutes. Or 5 min warmup, 1x30@FTP then run. I used to do this when stressed for time--there's a sufferfest video called the hunted that I used as an Ftp test. It's a warmup, 5min @ftp, then 20 min, then tempo/sprints. I'd skip the tempo stuff and then run. YMMV.
  • I do the bike for 1 hr
  • x3. Do the full bike. But if I'm being totally honest, most of my 1hr bike workouts get cut down to like 45 mins because of time constraints so I do a shorter warmup then MS a 1-2 min cool down.
  • I didn't see Chris Mohr's post before I made mine. I actually think his response is better... If the run is your limiter, then getting hat frequency in is very helpful and I'm going to try and do a much better job of that this yr...
  • If your equally MOP with both you could do a MP run out HMP run back, really warms things up, jump on the bike working your way up to Z3 riding for 5 min total then hit your MS on the bike with its ( rest ) time.
  • Great stuff...thanks all...Chris...and With....while I don't think run is my limiter....I want to maintain my run frequency this OS..so I have been okay with making the bike 40-45 and getting a good 2.5-3 miles of running in 18-25min....when pressed...

  • Here's just a quick thought. Do the bike, shortening wu or cd just enough to get 5-10 minutes on the dread mill. All you are doing in either case is training a quick bit of transition legs and getting a bit of confidence on that point.
  • If this is a one-time situation, just do the whole bike and bag the run. If this is an ongoing situation then you need to get the running in, regardless of your relative strengths acorss the sports. Consistently bagging a run workout is a bad idea.
