Big Bike and Tri Weeks--when to do them?

I am planning out the ER call schedule for the next several months for myself and my doctor partners and wanted to work in the Big weeks into my schedule for the first time and don't want to be on call during those weeks. As a general rule of thumb how many weeks prior to an A race do you schedule the big bike and big tri weeks. Also are they the same in preparation for a 70.3 as a 140.6?

  • I've found the best times for BBT/BTW (for me, its usually the latter, as I don't like to stop swimming or running) are 14-13 weeks before an A race, with a short time for recovery before beginning 12 week build, and/or 7 weeks before the race, culminating in the first race rehearsal. Again, recovery of 1-2 days is a good idea, before heading into the most important 4 weeks of the training year. Seen the wiki post?
  • Jeff,

How 'bout submitting another Season Planning Survey to Rich and throwing in the comments the info on where your Heavy Call weeks are vs your Light/No Call weeks?
