weight gain during OS???

Is it normal to gain weight during the OS?  I have gained about 2-3 lbs, might be more muscle?  Can't say I have been 100% focused on my diet, but i have not been really eating that bad....

  • @Alex, I've gained about 2 lbs as well, but that's up from my race weight so I'm not to concerned about it. I usually put on about 4 lbs between the end of the season and the first of the year when I start getting into base training. This is my first OS with EN so maybe the OS is keeping those other 2lbs at bay.
  • Thanks Mark, it does make sense! I do tend to gain 4lbs too.
  • Alex,

The not-so-ez-to-swallow truth is that our CalorieBurningVolume is down, if you're following the plans. Yes, the work is hard, and effective, but still not the same as our lengthier weeks later in the Spring/Summer/Fall.

So, you know what I'm getting at....

This is the first OS that I've been able to lose lbs and it has nothing to do with the workouts.

Eating less, eating with purpose, eating at the right time, and (again) eating less.

BUT, it is the off season even though it's the Out Season. And, to me, if there's a time a lower your guard on your calorie watch, it's now. Cuz' it'll come right off in about 12 weeks as long as you don't go overboard with it.
  • Ahhh, my bad!

I'm sure Rich will chime in, but if you want feedback from the team then try posting this in the General or Nutrition forums.

Sorry, Rich. missed that it was Macro.
  • Likely what Chris said. For me, I know I develop IM-style eating habits, sustainable when I'm training 14-16hrs week, that don't change much when my volume drops = I gain weight. Over time I've found that I lose very little or even gain weight if my weekly volume is less than about 9hrs per week. That is, if I'm not also logging my diet and exercise.

Moving this to the Nutrition Forum where you'll get more comments from the Team.
