Jeremy Welwood's 'lost in training plan' thread

Hi everyone. I am a triathlon newbie, but have been training for Ironman Canada for several months now. I just talked with Coach Patrick today, and I told him I am currently on Week 4 of the full ironman, intermediate, 20-week training plan. He quickly told me that I should definitely not be anywhere close to this, as I should be starting the out season on Jan. 6.

What am I supposed to be doing for training this week?!?!

  • My personal opinion is just get your mindset right to ramp up come 1/6. Just do some consistent and shorter workouts for the next week and a half and dive in full speed come Jan 6. Enjoy having some downtime with no structure as you'll have structured training from 1/6 all the way to IM Canada.

Jeremy, looks like you submitted your Season Planning Survey to me today. I'll do your Season RoadMap today or tomorrow and you'll be all set. Just sit tight for now, thanks.

  • Hi Coach Rich,

I had submitted a season survey shortly after I joined EN (a few months ago), and I have been following my training plan that was sent to me. I didn't know anything was wrong until I talked to Coach Patrick today. After I chatted with him, he determined I was way off in terms of the timing of my plan (I think maybe I just implemented my plan too early??)

Anyways, now that I am aware, I am holding back a little, and will go for a nice swim tomorrow!
