Converting Sufferfest to Power

I've been using the Sufferland videos for my rides leading up to the Jan OS.

I'd like to use my FTP or VO2 to make sure my effort is sufficient.  I have been thinking that a linear function based off VO2 makes the most sense to align with the sprints.  My VO2 is 240, so a 10/10 is 240, and a 7/10 is 168 and the warm-up.easy at 5/10 is at 120.

Are others doing this same math when using Sufferfest videos?

  • Brett, I've got the 'published' conversion charts for the Sufferfest vids at the house (I'm currently sitting at my desk at work). It is buried somewhere on their website. If you drop me your email, I'll send it to you.
  • I simply drop them into TrainerRoad and let it tell me what Power I should be at during any given point. For most of the videos I have to dial it down a bit to like 97% because I find it early impossible to hit their actual targets all the time.

I should note that I LOVE this for training.  I have power targets and the video keeps me interested.

  • TrainerRoad + Wahoo KICKR does all that for me. Automagically puts it in ERG mode for each section. I just pedal. Love it!
  • @Brett, if you have a Computrainer there is an excel file at the below URL where you enter your FTP, Recovery FTP and Max FTP to make ERG/MRC files for all the sufferfest videos.

    http://viewsoftheroad.com/sufferfest-erg-spreadsheet/

It tells you to hit start at a specific point in the video so the power lines up with the video.

It depends on the vid.  So in general, I use 7/10 FTP; 8/10 VO2 except during revolver.  Revolver you just plug in your FTP and try to hit the target.  So those would be right for 1-5 minutes. But a "10" for 5 minutes, is not the same as a "10" for a sprint.  On the "suffer" scale, the 10 usually means "kill yourself".
