NOS lessons learned for the JOS peeps
Although everyone in the Haus understands that the real warriors are battling the big cage matches in the NOS, I have heard of a few forgotten souls that are starting some serious training in January (JOS). As the NOS is starting week 10, I figure that there may be some lessons learned from the vets and especially from the newer folks on good/bad lessons learned, gee I wish I had know this, or why didn't RnP or one of those so-called WSM's tell me that front. So for all those in the NOS (especially the newer folks whose learning curve may have been steep upon introduction to the outseason), please share some thoughts for the JOS'ers as they prepare themselves and their respective pain caves for their upcoming cage matches.

Time.
We are very efficient, not by accident, around here. It's very important to erase that ingrained feeling of 'I must add time to my bikes and runs and I CAN because these prescribed workouts are SO short!''
Especially for the newbies....you don't HAVE to add volume on the down low, even if you see some others doing it. You will make great gains thru the OS even if you don't tack on extra time. Coaches make a note to 'allow' us to go a bit longer, BUT, don't feel like you're missing out if you only hit the main sets.
and don't sweat the days that you hit 94% instead of 95% or 99.7% instead of 1.001%. Just work hard, you'll know, and the results will come.
- You will see some folks post some crazy numbers (or you may be posting crazy numbers yourself). That level of performance is awesome and "BOOM"-worthy. However, if you feel your numbers are not as shiny as someone else's, don't let that stop you from posting and joining the conversation in the weekly threads. Everyone has a place, regardless of how shiny you think FTP or VDOT may or may not be. It’s all about you and doing the work you need to do to make your goals.
- Focus on/post about the OS, not your A/B/ or C race next year. Get your head off of next year’s races. Focus on the rocking the OS and the workouts it has. Tons of time to think about racing after you recover from the OS.
Additional note: I would echo Chris' point about not trying to keep up with the 'Joneses' with respect to volumn and intensity. DO.NOT.TRY.TO.BE.THE.MOSTEST.WITH.THE.MOSTEST. EN is not about that. Work your groove and celebrate everyone else working their's.
