Introducing Marathon Nation

Folks -

Many of you saw my recent announcement on the launch of Marathon Nation (www.marathonnation.us). This is a new community for long-distance runners looking for high-quality training guidance and support in the same spirit of what we have built here for triathlons. Members will have access to training plans, coach and peer support, resources, and much more.

Please Note: Marathon Nation is independent of EN, and is actually a solo venture by Coach Patrick into the run space. While there will be a lot of similarity between the training approaches (think high-ROI, vDOT, etc.), there is no overlap of membership or competing agenda. In other words, if you are a member of EN, you are not automatically a member of Marathon Nation, and vice versa.

I have long wanted to do something for runners, and my recent return to marathon-ing has really motivated me to take this project off the shelf and put it into action. I am excited to see where the MN community goes in 2010 as runners are such a different breed than your typical tri-geek!

While the site is in beta right now, runners can sign up for an early invitation to see the platform when we open in April and download a free resource on how to properly race a marathon.

If You'd Like To Help...

* We are looking for Race Captains for five key fall marathons; if selected these folks get free MN access for the season and all race fees paid for. If you know someone who fits the bill, please ask them to apply here.

* We need cool folks just like you! Please send your running friends over to MarathonNation.us. Encourage them to download our free stuff and register for an early invitation.

* Please fan Marathon Nation on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter to help us spread the love.

Thanks again for your time and support.

Coach P

  • Awesome Patrick! As a marathoner, I think this is a very kool idea! I will definately fan MN on Facebook, and spread the love! Good luck in this venture! I think it will fly!
  • Thanks Barbara and everyone else for your fanning and support! You guys are totally awesome!

  • Coolio!! I'm looking forward to returning to marathons after this tri season (specifically to re-qualify again and actually go to Boston - was going to go this year but got lured into IMSG). This will be GREAT!
  • Congratulations on the launch!   That's really cool.

Now how many more sports do you guys have to conquer before you start calling it an "Endurance Empire?"

  • I could have used this many years ago! I DNF'd in 3 of my first 4 marathon starts. I've hit the wall so hard that I still have spatula marks from where they scraped me off. My alltime classic crash, however, was not a DNF. It was a 2:53 personal worst finish with a 1:13 half split. If you need someone to describe what it means to hit the wall, I'm your man.

Thanks Paul...I will be sure to work in the spatula comment there somewhere!!! And Dave / Olivia, thanks for the mojo!

  • Coach P,

Congrats on getting the MN project off the shelf and up and running.  I don't have many friends and avoid facebook like the plague but will get around to sharing the love.
