swim training

At this time of the year, at least till April, I have to do indoor pool swimming. The problem is the pool is 100 mile round trip away. I am also on call and can't leave town about 2 days a week. My plan now calls for 3 swim work outs per week. I can do 2 , but difficult to get 3 in. any suggestions?

  • Paul, you will have to tell me what your race schedule is (or update your signature so everyone can see it)....given your constraints, I can't see swimming more than 1x a week. I would plan on an epic session (call it 5k) with plenty of drills / rest and energy food! For the remainder of your time, I would look into some swim cords (elastic bands) to build up requisite strength - these are short 15 to 20' sessions and can be done 3-4 x a week as required. There are some swim band exercises in the Swim Section of the Wiki!
  • Nola 70.3 april 13; Kerrvile 70.3 sept. 28; IMFL Oct 31 and some sprits and olympics in between.2x a week is certainly doable and have no problem with that.

  • Paul, I'd say 1x a week + cords. Then 2x a week at 4 weeks prior to each HIM. We can then talk for IMFL re your goals, etc, as based off of your performances in the other half IMs!
