OS at altitude

Will be working overseas at 7000 to 8000 feet for 5 weeks during the OS.  ( late Jan and Feb)  I live at 700 feet.  Swim and bike not possible.  No snow.   Running and hiking on vertical terrain possible.   Late afternoons free and Sundays.   Will have a Garmin GPS and HR monitor.  Would welcome suggestions on how best to train in these conditions.  Thanks!!

Just train with the HR zones you set when you test at home, but don't look at / ignore pace. IOW, in our experience, a Zone 4 HR run will feel like Zone 4...but you'll look at your GPS and see that you're running at a slower pace. Not a big deal, as long as you don't freak out and try to run your sea level pace at 7-8k.

Short answer, just stick to HR and you'll be fine.

  • Thank you for the response.

    1.  How can I get a copy of my road map?  The one included in my email was not mine, although the screen cast was mine.

    2.  From Jan 27 to March 2,   I will not be able to bike or swim.  I also will be at 7000feet.  Should I load up a run focused training plan for that time span?  Any recommendations for how to fill that 5 week period?

    Thank you for your help!!

No rush, I have 2 weeks before I leave the country.
