Advice on Epic Week Running?

EDIT - POSTED IN WRONG FORUM.  CAN SOMEONE MOVE TO GENERAL TRAINING?

I have a two-week Epic Camp mapped out in Tucson in early April.  I’ll be coming into this at about 2/3 of the way through outseason, at the end of the vo2 block.    First race of the season is lightyears away.  After camp, I’ll chillax for a week and then getting back to the final outseason ‘go faster’ block for 6 weeks.

Any input on the flavour of running I should be including during the camp?  I can normally absorb about 5-6 run days per week in an Epic block, and at this planning stage, I’m thinking I’d like to just keep it simple with the majority of time in MP, major focus on cadence and economy, with occasional strides to keep things firing like they should.   Thoughts?

  • Dave, just my n=1 experience but when I do any type of big week I always dial my running back to EP the whole time. I find that trying to run fast combined with the fatigue of an big volume block can be very dangerous and it is easy to over do it on the run.

I do like your major focus on cadence and economy.

I would do almost all of your running at EP and maybe through in some MP intervals, but don't force anything, just run comfortably and stop if you are exhausted or just not feeling it.

Just my thoughts, others may have different experiences.
  • This is a great topic.  I don't have the answers but would like to know recommendations as well.  I am planning a self supported bike week and have read the wiki page on "big week" but would like to know more detail.  Like how much swim to include, if any.  If anyone has a set plan please share it.
