  • Me first, me first! Signed up with about 12 of my local Dallas peeps; so we'll all be making the trek out to Norcal. Then wine tasting after, I'm sure.

This will be my 2nd time at Vineman, with my first back in 2010.

    Will Ambrose be back too???
  • I will be there; just not sure if as a racer. Working with friend of RD to allow me to race. Otherwise will be there cheerleading a friend who is registered.

Scott - your time to beat is my 2013 race time of 5:23. Good luck image
  • Is there a thread or going to be a thread for the full Vineman or full aqua bike? Couldn't get into 70.3, so signed up for the full aqua bike 2 weeks later.
  • I am in for Vineman! Sort of by accident at first, but now I am stoked about it! I was gonna do Wildflower, but now that drought has busted that up, I am really glad that I was able to get into Vineman the day registration opened up.
  • I'll be joining everyone at Vineman 70.3. The course goes right by where my mom grew up in Healdsburg. I've done it twice and the full aquabike once. Plus, if Dino's doing it, i'm doing it (just slower). ;-)
  • @David James -I'm doing the Vineman Full. I joined the IMLP group as the date for them is July 27. Not really any "action" on forum (Not like the daily comments from OS forum image ) This may be something I'm missing somewhere else though.....
  • It is with regret that I've chosen to pull out of Vineman 70.3 this year. Two of my three close training friends are also pulling out (due to injury) and I'm on the cusp of an injury as well (right knee), so the volume and intensity are decreasing to help the healing.

Besides, I'll probably be looking for another job soon.

Best of luck to all of you, and I'll be stalking you online!
  • @Scott good luck in future endeavors!
  • Quiet on this thread. IMLP which parallels Vineman full has dayly comments on training etc...would like to hear what Vineman race prep is going for others....and of course recap when ya'll crush it!
  • @Scott- Sorry things aren't going well.  I was looking forward to meeting you again.

@david- yeah, this is a small group it seems.  I for one just started the plan a few weeks ago and now I've been sick for the last week.  Hopefully getting back on track this weekend.

  • Im in, 2nd trip to vineman this is a great race and plenty to do before and after...river swim in 4 feet of water is interesting..bike is beautiful through the wind country..one significant hill, chalk hill late in the race. down hill for 6 plus miles after that. rolling hills on the run, not much flat..everyone will enjoy this race
  • Anyone know the actual grade/distance of Chalk hill and the other climbs? I believe there is another smaller couple steep ones and one longer shallow climb. Just for my training comparisons.
  • Actualy found what i wanted by looking at a few Strava segments.

  • I'm doing Barb's race which takes place during the full vineman (one loop so 70.3 course). This is my second HIM (my first was Vineman 70.3 last year). Excited to repeat the course with EN training. Last year I trained on my own with a goal of finishing and I did just under the cut-off. I've been training with EN since Jan and I plan to follow the plan. Curious to see how my times change. On my way to my first full in November - IMAZ!
Looking forward to seeing everyone's race plan, reports and getting feedback on mine.

Also - what is the grade of Chalk hill? It seemed very steep last year by the time I got there ;-)
  • Hi guys!

I am a bit late to posting here, but I just put together my race plan and posted in the 'execution' section. Would love to hear any feedback and/or hear about what you guys are thinking for your plans.

This is my first 70.3 distance race and I am excited. And anxious.

Vicki, FYI, looks like Chalk Hill grade is roughly 10% - 400ft of climb over .75 miles (~4000 ft).

    Looking forward to 7/13!

  • Just throwing this out there, Viewthe Race, has complete video of the bike course and parts of the swim start. Iis a go pro style video that travels the whole course including chalk Hill at mile 40 something. there are good tips on the course of when to prepare for inclines. for anyone doing this the first time, its a great video and can be seen on u tube also.
  • How'd everyone do? Looking FWD to the Race reports!
  • David- Hopfully I'll have mine written up this weekend. I did fairly good. Left about 10 min out there because of electrolyte issues the last 3 or 4 miles of the run. But a New PR 5:41.

  • Just posted my race report: http://members.endurancenation.us/Forums/tabid/57/aft/16138/Default.aspx

    Some takeaways:

    • The course is beautiful
    • Bike course was pretty technical (at least seemed so to me); hills not bad, but a lot of winding and rollers. Not a lot of flat and straight.
    • Run course felt hilly. The actual elevation gain is not a lot, but I would save some in the tank for the later half of that run.

    Was a gorgeous day.

I was there with my wife and 2 kids under 2.5...so while we didnt connect with other ENers, I think that is probably OK - we havent figured out 'stress free travel' yet, and wanted to save everyone the chaos of our toddlers.

Paul, thanks for the tip on viewtherace.com - that was super helpful.

David H, hope you have a great race out there in a couple of weeks!!

  • This will be my first vineman, leading up to my first IMKY. I live in Kansas city, so lots of trainer time until the weather warms up! Appreciate any tips for successful race execution . Cheers! Kalletta
