Could my ankle pain (peroneal tendon area) be related to my Hoka One Ones??
I posted this up in the Hoka One One string in the Gear Forum but I figured I'd throw it out here as well.
Okay...so I just bought some Hokas. I've had them for about a week & a half. I've done three runs in them - a 5k, a 5 miler & a 7 miler. I like the way they feel while I'm running in them. However, during this same time frame I've started noticing some pain in my ankle - I think it's in the peroneal tendon area. Now...to be fair, the first time I noticed this was after my bike ride this past Saturday (2 hours on the indoor trainer)....NOT after running. I've never had this pain before and it got worse from Saturday to today. Not excruciating but tender when I walk.

I'm wondering if this is related to the shoe or if the timing is just coincidental.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a lot of experience with Pereneol tendon damage as I carry a half shredded pereneol tendon in my left ankle per MRI and Ortho analysis a year ago. Unless you rolled the ankle, my opinion is that it is not due to the HOKAS, however, there are many times after a very hard bike where I feel the pain/fatigue in my weakened tendon.............I tend to lean towards the bike stress on the ankle area from pulling hard vs. the new HOKAS for what it's worth...........
My injury is a result of rolling the ankle 3 times over a 3-4 year period.............but again, I feel the stress of the bike on the weakened tendon often.......after I complete a hard bike....
Ironically enough, I rolled my OTHER ankle while running the other day (in my Hoka's). It wasn't too bad...but I stepped on a rock that i didn't see and rolled it. I think I would have rolled it even if I'd been in my Asics, but with the Hoka's I definitely felt like it rolled worse - being that high up off the ground. That ankle is still sore but healing nicely. I did a 60 minute ride on the trainer last night and the ankle (the PT one) felt pretty good. I still feel it when I walk. I ordered a CEP ankle brace that will hopefully provide some additional support/compression.
In it's simplest form, Tir is swim bike run and I recommend the KISS principle of = keep it simple stupid, don't get wraped up into the latest greatest gadget/shoe etc, etc,...
You will benefit from a HR monitor and a PT of some sort. With training and testing as EN has written into its programs, this is all you need end of story period. If you have the cash and time and can figure out gadgets party on. The bottom line is KISS and give 100% to each workout with a goal of .... just giving 1% more = 101%
