Chris's Macro Thread

My big race this year is IMWI - my first Ironman distance!  I originaly targeted Racine (July 20) or Muncie (July 12) as my big warm-up race before IMWI, but now I'm considering Rev3 Wisconsin Dells (June 22) - the family will be much happier with the Dells race that's for sure.

My only concern on picking my warm-up race is timing.  Is the Rev3 race to far out from IMWI or the Racine race to close to properly recover for IMWI?  Any thoughts on what race would be better?

Thanks,

Chris

Rev3WD is a '14 "Key Race" for us, excellent timing. More here.

  • Perfect - Rev3 Wisconsin it is!

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • I plan on signing up for the IMWI training camp. On the EN website it states the cost $199 until January 31. However, Active lists it at $249 for EN Members - is there a code for members?

    Thanks

  • Rich,

With the addition of Rev3 Wisconsin to my race schedule, my training plans moved a bit with the Out Season (OS) ending on March 23rd. That change automatically put me at Week 5 in the OS vs. where I'm actually at, which is Week 2. What are thoughts of jumping to week 5 or just staying on my current schedule
    Thanks,
    Chris

No, I don't want you to change the ending date of the OS. You should still have it ending on 4/13. However, I'm pulling you out of the OS early so I can transition you over to the HIM plan. Short answer is that you should STILL be on OS Wk2, don't move your plan.

Fixing the price of the camp. Thanks.

  • Thanks Rich - love being part of the group already.
  • Coach Rich,

I need some clarification on my plan. I start swim camp on March 24th, but I'm unsure if it ends on April 6 or March 30th. If you could shed some light on that, I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you,
    Chris

On 3/24 you're going to load up the SC plan, setting it to end 4/6. The SC plan is 2wks but I only want you to do 1wk of the plan. So on 3/31 you're then going to load up the HIM plan, setting it to end on 6/22.

  • Hey Coach,

My run training has sucked the last 7 weeks due to my calves - I finally got the problem identified and resolved. As a result, I switched (at least I requested) to change my REV3 Wisconsin distance from the Half to the Olympic - no way I can be ready to run 13 miles in 4 weeks.

I was thinking about doing Ironman Steelhead, which is August 10th, but my big race is Ironman Wisconsin. Is Steelhead to close to IMWI to fully recover and be ready for IMWI?

    Thanks,
    Chris
  • Hi Chris,

Yeah, Aug 10 is definitely inside the window where I don't like to see people race, because it comes at the cost of lost/compromised IM-specific training. FYI, you don't "need" to race a HIM before an IM.
  • Thanks Coach

That's what I figured. Looks like I'll be HIM free this year!

  • Hey Coach,

I still have not gotten my EN tri top. Just curious when you think I'll get it

    thanks

  • Hey Rich,

Did you post or email the IMWI camp podcasts/slides - if so, can you point me in the right direction

    Thanks much
