Scott Giljum's Macro Thread

Rich, I have been thinking on my 2014 calendar and wanted a coaches take.  I have limited SAU's and funds (as I am sure does everyone). I am signed up for IM Moo.  I am considering HIM Racine as well as the IM Wisc camp.  First question, if I can only do one of the two, which would you recommend? If I can pull off both, would this be recommended knowing that I want to be in top form for IM Moo?  As always, thanks for your feedback!

    Hi Scott,

Have you raced or trained on the IMWI course before? If not, the camp would be very, very valuable. Know that course especially is a HUGE advantage on race day.

  • Rich I raced IMWI last year. I always think more on the course prep is good though. With that in mind, what so you think?
  • Yes, always good to get on the course and we've got game for our IM training camps, teaching you how to race. FWIW, Rev3 Wisconsin Dells is our midwest key race this year vs Racine. The member reviews for Racine weren't that great last year. R3WD should be a great venue and the timing is better than Racine, ie, no need for much of a mid IM training plan adjustment, as the race is so early in your IM plan.

  • Rich,
Quick season planning question. I just finished the OS and am in swim camp right now. I have one more week of it. After that I believe I go to a run or bike focus, my choice. My question is this. I am a stronger runner than a biker first off. Do I spend the six weeks trying to bone up a bit more on the bike and make my weak spot more passable OR do I do a run focus and try to make a strength (at least relative to me) that much stronger? As always, thanks for the help!

The purpose of the Focus plans is to put your stronger sport in the closet and work on your weaker sport. So Bike Focus is for strong runners who need to improve their bike, for example.

  • Rich, if I was going to add a 70.3 on June 28, how would my season plan change? I am about to finish the get faster block. Would it still be a good idea or have I missed the window where it would make sense?

No, you're good. If you did that I'd have you exit the GF plan ~8wks out from the HIM and drop into the HIM plan at that time. Not sure how the calendar math works out on that but I'm sure you get the idea.
