Cycleops Silencer Trainer
I just bought a Cycleops Silencer Trainer and used it for some training rides the last few days.
Since the Lemond Revolution came out with the rear wheel free trainer a couple years back others have followed. Kickr the most notable. I absolutely love the road feel of the Lemond and have put a ton of hours on my unit.
Cycleops jumped on the band wagon with the release of the Silencer and it is starting to hit retail stores now. I am a gear junkie and had to have one.
My take immediately was wow this thing is not very heavy. Not like the Kickr or the Lemond which you could use as boat anchors. But in this case weight is good. The Silencer almost wants to hop forward as you pedal because it is too light (or maybe I am too heavy for it at 173 pounds) but I certainly don't have this issue with my Lemond Rev.
There is an annoying lean of the trainer to the non support side which also happens to be the drive side of the bike. I could not get the unit to stand tall for nothing. If I pedaled harder the lean was even more pronounced.
So the entire time I am pedaling, I am leaning, the trainer is hoping and I am wobbling all over the saddle because the unit just does not seem to support me.
Also there is a resistance cable lever connected to the trainer that you can attach to the handlebars. The cable lever adjusts the trainer resistance up or down. It seems like there is no rhyme or reason to how much the resistance increases or decreases.
Tomorrow I am taking the Silencer back to the shop I purchased it from and then I am going to apologize to my loyal Lemond Revolution for ever looking at another trainer. What an absolute piece of scrap iron.
I would suggest waiting until version 4.0 or beyond if you want to buy one or..... I have one I can sell you!!!!!!!!!!!!
