Pleasant surprise!

So, I strayed (for the first time) from my training plan yesterday.  It called for a 5k test, which I am going to do this weekend since I am having to shift around my workouts because of my wife's work schedule...but, instead, I did a regular HIM long-ish run.  I only had about 1:30 to workout, so, I thought I would do MOST of a RR run for my HIM on April to see how I stand in the way of fitness.

I ran 3 at MP+30' (7:55-8:00/mile for me), then I ran until the 1:06 mark at z2 (7:30-ish).  I noticed that, as long as I stayed at 7:30 and NOT any faster, I didn't experience the lactic acid build-up - great discovery (because at 7:19/mile, I feel that happening).  So, I forced myself to stay at 7:30 until 1:06, then I turned home guessing I would have about 2.5 miles to go, and I let the reigns go to see what I had in me...knowing that Friday would be a complete day off...and Sat would be a swim and bike combo.

Man...RnP have it right!  I FORCED myself to run z3 for 5 minutes, and then I blew the freakin' doors off the run putting in 6:30-35 to the finish and feeling strong the whole way!  I know that isn't called for anywhere in the training program, but, I have never felt so ready for the run than I do now!  Heck yeah!  I am pumped to execute the plan now!

I hope everyone else has similar findings!

  • Doesn't that feel awesome?! I felt like that last weekend at a 5 mile race...couldn't believe the people I was passing! It was almost as if I didn't believe RnP until it actually happened! Great work!
