Pavol's Macro Thread

Hello Rich,

I would appreciate your assistance in helping me hitting the reset button on my 2014 season plan.  I have had some personal challenges in December, and haven't been training for the pat 6 weeks.  I am back to 100% now, and ready to get back on the horse. Do I just resume my training, or is it worth reloading my plan along w/ the new folks joining in January?  Also, I will be doing some extensive traveling in Feb - April (some training challenges and opportunities involved), so I think we should redo my season anyway.  E.g. I will be 3 weeks in Australia (traveling on holidays, so I can run, but probably not cycle or swim very much), then few long weekends in FL (great opportunity for some cycling camp as per one of your Pod casts?).

Two months ago we also had a brief message exchange about fixing the end of my race season - swapping few races around.  We said we would address it later on.  Is now a good time?  Should I just resubmit my season schedule to you, so we can work out a new plan.

 Many thanks in advance,

Pavol

  • Hello Rich,

So I went ahead and filled out a new Season Planning Survey.  The detail I would like to work into our plan in that I will be in Australia from Feb-22 through Mar-16, so I should probably focus on running during this time (not sure I will be able to ride or swim very much).  May actually work out w/ Half Marathon being my first race on Mar-22?

I will be in Florida from Apr-18 through 22, so I could do some heavy volume riding (including the week before and after), so it may be worth to include some "cycling camp" into my plan at this time if that would work w/ Quassy Half?

    Thanks again,

    Pavol

  • Hey Pavol,

Sorry for the delay. I just did this for you, please checked your email inbox.
  • Just did.  Looks great.  Thanks a lot Rich.
  • Hello coach Rich,

I wasn't able to resist the Maryland IM call, and have signed up last night.  Bit of a background: I did my first IM last year (MT - after 4 years doing triathlon), and although everything went well from preparation and execution perspective, few days after the race I stopped being happy w/ a 12:04 time (before the race I was planning between 12:00 - 12:30, so technically I should be happy, but I am not, which is why I joined EN).  I know I had sub 12 hrs in me that day (fell on a bike, lost my nutrition, got held up in transitions, etc.).

Anyway, after the race I set an objective to go close to 11 hours (if not closely under) in the next 3 years. My wife recently announced she wants to have another baby and that I am a frontrunner to father our second child (go me!), but she needs me to spend more time w/ the family next year.

So let's get to the point: I am preparing for our featured race Quassy, and have decided to scrap most of my post-Quassy plans this season to focus on MD. Grateful if you could adjust my season roadmap to reflect this this.  Please feel free drop or suggest any other races to my roadmap that would help me in getting faster for the IM.  That is really my big 'A' race (and perhaps only long distance race for the next 3 years), so I really need to do well here.

Many thanks in advance, and I look to hear from you.

    Pavol,

Great to hear your wife is seriously considering letting you do the fathering work. Job security and all that....

You don't need to drop Quassy. In fact, it would be better if you carried on with HIM training and then picked up the IM ball after Quassy, training through the summer for IMMD. Please complete a season planning survey so I can plan all of this out for you.
