How do I print out my training plan?

How do I view more than one week at a time? It would be nice to see several weeks of my plan at a time or perhaps the whole season so I know if I need to adjust to my vacation/work schedule a month or two down the road.

  • I'm wondering the same thing and was going to ask the same question. Thx!

Sorry, you can only look ahead in the plan one week at a time by using the "Show week X" drop down.

  • Really? Only one week at a time? That seems a bit cumbersome.

What about printing out my workouts?
  • Hi Tom,

You can use your browser to print each page/week of your plan, by printing the page.

This may help you, though we haven't updated it for the 2014 versions of the plans.

Please understand that you are paying us month to month. The above are some compromises we've made to hopefully get you what you need. Thanks.

  • Ok thanks. The snapshots are what I was looking for.

Next question, I see where week 4 of the ironman plan is a test week which I just did this past week (the trial week) And then you had me start on week 3 of the ironman plan. I think I saw somewhere (wiki or forum) that the recommendation is to do week 5 in place of week 4. Is that correct? And then would I repeat week 5 at its scheduled time?

Question 2: just trying to understand some of the theory on the training plan. What is the rational for doing the short run on Saturdays before your long bike?

Yes, just do Wk5 in place of Wk4 = you'll do Wk5 twice.

So I'm trying to plan out my races for next year and wanted some advice especially regarding generally how a training plan would come together.

I'm signed up for IM Choo right now.  My plan was to also sign up for either IM AZ (using my all world status from WTC) or IM Canada (registration is still open).  Canada to Choo is 9 weeks and Choo to AZ is 7 weeks.  Positive for doing Canada is there are two weeks more separation between IM Choo as well as it's within driving distance for me.  Also, doing Canada would allow me to do NYC marathon which I will have an entry after the cancellation in 2012 for Hurricane Sandy.  Down side for Canada is that I don't especially like all the downhill of the bike course.  The other downside for Canada is that there is a family reunion cruise happening that I can't get out of the week of 6/15 which would leave me 5 weeks until Canada

So my question is mainly do you think the cruise week will really screw up my training for Canada or can I hack a plan and do a big week right before and use the cruise as a week of recovery?  If you think it's ridiculous to go on a cruise 6 weeks out from an Ironman then let me know!

    Thanks,

    Tom

What are you goals for IMChoo, because doing an Ironman 9wks before IMChoo significantly changes the scope of your season. In fact, I would rework your season to focus on IMCA and we handle the IMCA to Chatt thing after IMCA. The cruise in June can be worked around.

  • Thanks coach.  I guess I was thinking both races would be "A" races unless you advise against otherwise.  I've finished 6th in my age group twice now in my last two ironmans (AZ and TX) so I feel like I'm right on the cusp of making the podium and then, if lucky, Kona.  Since I've not done either one of the courses, I'm not sure if one would have a  priority over the other (Whistler vs Chat).  Do you think it's possible to make both an "A" race?  I'm not the best downhill bike rider so I wasn't sure if making Canada my biggest and only priority race for the year would be the best strategy.

    Thanks for the input.

Every Ironman is an A-race and I would need to rework your plan so that IMCA is on the calendar. We would then solve the CA to Chatt question when we get there.

When you make a decision, just resubmit your TSR and I'll do this for you.

  • Coach,

I just updated my TSR and got the email that said it was ready to view however, when I go to my TSR it still says in the status column "waiting for coach".  Please help.

    Tom

  • Ok just saw the tsr. Thanks.
  • In anticipation of post race phone call on 10/5 here is my race report.

  • Coach,

I'm scheduled for IM Texas in May. Currently in the NOS and you have me scheduled to do the swim camp and then the advanced IM plan. I've been listening to the podcasts and was interested in doing some "pops" in my bike training in anticipation for Texas and was wondering what your thoughts were on what to do, when to do it, or even if I should. I actually have some breaks in my work schedule every 6 weeks that would allow me to do some heavy riding over 4-5 days. I will have time off work 2/5-2/9, 3/18-3/22 and 4/29-5/3.

On a second note, for the dates in February (2/5-2/9) I am looking to be in S. Cal. and was wondering about training routes in your area. Is there places to ride away from traffic in the LA and/or Palm Springs area?

    Thanks, Tom

While volume pops anytime are good, doing them closer to your race is better. So that range of 4/29-5/3 would be good. However, Patrick and I are tweaking the IM plans now to build in higher volume opportunities in the last few weeks of the plan.

On a second note, for the dates in February (2/5-2/9) I am looking to be in S. Cal. and was wondering about training routes in your area. Is there places to ride away from traffic in the LA and/or Palm Springs area? LA and SoCal is extremely big. For example, there's about 130mi of city between ^those two^ locations above, so narrow it down for me and I could probably give you some options. You're welcome to hook up with me, Dino, and any other locals if we can make it work. Crazy good climbing out here in our hood

    Thanks, Tom

  • Ok, thanks. I will wait to see what the new plans look like.

Haven't made any definite plans on our trip to S. Cal yet so i guess that's why I left it somewhat open. My wife and I are hoping to get tickets for a taping of the tv show the voice so we will for sure be around universal studios for at least one day. I noticed on your strava posts that your long rides went through populated area so I was wondering if there are some long bike paths that you were on that are good for long rides. Might be interesting to hook up on a ride or two with you however I would just have my TRI bike.

Yes, those are bike paths...but I'd rather kiss my sister than ride those if I don't have to.
