Mt Lemmon Marathon

Anyone going to Tucson in April for the Mt Lemmon Marathon?  AKA "Worlds toughest (road) race marathon"

Any Flat country tips?

I always had hills or the mountain itself to train on.  I hope you don't suggest cranking treadmill to 8% and running for hours on that{just shoot me}.

  • David I'm in Tucson until 4/15.... IMTX would keep me out of Mt. Lemmon Marathon anyway..... Heck I didnt even make it to the top on my bike first attempt LOL.. Good luck..

Oh and I left NH this winter hope your having fun on the east coast!
  • Trying to have some "fun" with this weather...  Did a 5K NYE run at midnight downtown Phili. And yesterday did a 13.1 mile mucky NJ Trail series run that was a bit of a challenge coming off the OS Bike test Sat.... I promised myself I'd do more "fun" activities vs. just hours on the trainer then unclip it for my A race etc.    Mt Lemmon is tradition for me now.    I actually haven't ever ridden to the top!  (I'm more scared of the descent image  )

Enjoy the wonderful spring (starting next month LOL!) in the desert. You have to do the Shootout ride etc ....but I'm sure you have all the incite as to where Trisports is and all the group rides are. Also be sure to get some MTB in if you don't already at Fantasy Island trail area etc.

....can you tell I'm missing home!

  • I couldn't fathom climbing that by foot. It's not particularly steep, but that's just a long time slugging it out uphill.
  • After riding Mt. Lemmon last year at the EN national rally one of my first thoughts after noticing the distance was roughly approximate to a marathon was "Could you imagine running this thing???" then was promptly told that there was in fact such a race.

I wish I had any real advice on how to prepare for such a race, but all I can say is kudos to you for even undertaking such a challenge. As others have said, it's not particularly steep but it is virtually relentless until you approach the summit.
