Garmin 910 Data Fields
As you Garmin 910 users know, the array of data fields you can choose to monitor your swim, bike and run are plenty. As I setup my 910, I'd like to get an idea how others have theirs setup. Any help on which fields you find most useful, would be great
Thanks,
Chris

@Chris Do you have a power meter?
Also where are you in New Lennox? I have a place in Palos heights! Don't get up there but love Chicago .
Yes, I have a Power2Max power meter

Hey Chris,
Love the 910. Have been playing around with different data fields since last fall, trying to figure out what I actually need to see. Here's what I currently use:
Swim: I have found that I never need more than one or two fields, which coincidentally makes it easy to read underwater during a workout. When I'm doing distance and trying to hold a pace, I currently use Time and Avg Pace/100yd (I used to use Time and Distance, but my brain can't compute average pace when I hit 500 yds at 8:47, for example). When I do sprint sets, negatives, or descents, I just need Time (yep, I turn it into an expensive stop watch).
Bike: I currently run Time, Distance, 10s Power, and 30s Power. I've tried other fields in the past, but I find that I really only need to know how far, for how long, and what my current output is. 30s Power is fairly smooth and doesn't jump around a lot, giving me a good read on the average power I'm running. It's great for flats. I like the 10s Power when I'm facing something temporary (hill or bridge), as it gives me more immediate feedback. For me, the standard Power and 3s Power jump around too much (which is probably more a byproduct of my riding style than the watch or PM). I haven't figured out yet what I'll run for my next IM, as I think I'm going to want bigger picture feedback as well, such as overall Avg Power, IF, etc. I'll probably just create a second page of data fields that I can toggle between when boredom sets in.
Run: Time, Distance, Pace, Avg Pace. I always race with a goal run pace, so Avg Pace gives me a snapshot of where I am in the big picture, whereas the current Pace lets me know whether my current effort is helping or hurting the big picture. If I'm wearing a HR monitor during a race and pace is out the window because of heat or bonehead biking, I toggle down to the next set of fields, which displays HR (big on top), Time and Distance. If I see 170+ HR, I know I'm screwed. I've been using these fields for years on my Garmins. If it ain't broke . . .
Just my two Lincolns. I'm sure others far smarter than me can improve on the above.
Cheers.
Mike
