Annelise's Micro Thread

Hi there,  I'm basically getting started off a year + off.  Last week was a failed week for me and I am officially starting my OS training this week.  I tested monday on the bike, and am run testing today so I am following week 1 this week.  I have friends that are in week 2 and I'd like to just keep on similar schedule with them by skipping week 2 next week and going to JOS week 3.  Does that make sense or should I cut a week out of my OS plan and do 13 instead of 14 weeks..... and just move to week 2 next week?

Thanks!

  • Annelise, first, you win MASSIVE POINTS for actually uploading a profile picture. I am soooo happy!!! image And yes, you are find to go Week 1 to Week 3...in fact, you can do that starting on Saturday. Why delay the fun???? Great to have you here....
  • Thanks!   And I love that I won massive points for simply uploading a picture!  If only getting back into training were that easy....   :)

  • I have a couple super busy weeks of group travel, retreats, workshops with little to no access to bike.  I'm going to Peru!  :)  I'll be flying into Lima for a night, to then turn around and fly to Cusco for a night, then deeper into the mountains into the Sacred Valley where I will get the awesome opportunity to work with a shaman for a 5 day workshop on energy/healing work.  Hike for a day in Maccu Picchu then back to Lima where I will attend a 3 day workshop before my overnight trip home.  I'm home for one day and then back out again to Colorado for a long weekend workshop.

My running is still super weak, run test was 42 min.  My fastest 5K in 2013 was just shy of 30.   My 3 x 1 mile yesterday were (12:12, 12:05, 11:53).  I know I need work here.  Lots.  I expect to be adding run workouts since I can take my running shoes everywhere.  Could you please look at this travel schedule and lend me some suggestions in how to alter the OS plan?

See my schedule here, http://cl.ly/image/3G2G2H1i1e0A.  I wasn't sure how to list it to make it easiest to glance at.  Hope this is ok.

    Thank you!

  • Adding a note to my last message. I just looked up elevation.... I didn't realize I was going to be above 11,000 feet elevation on this trip.  So I'm guessing that make a little difference.... or a lot.  :)

  • @annelise...wow...sounds amazing!!!! I have to admit, though, that I am not all about sending you out into the mountains of remote Peru to get in some mile repeats. I really don't think that is worth it.

That said, at 11,000 feet, walking for 20 to 30 minutes will be a workout! Add in some yoga and perhaps some stretch cords (link below) so you can stay fit and focused and safe? I bet you'll find a few who want to walk with you.

I really don't think we think about exercise until 2/15 and 2/16…you will need the 14th off for travel recovery…so get in a Sat and Sun of some flavor of running (say 40' each day, whatever pace you can) and then we can talk reintegration to the OS, etc....cool???

ps - I will defer to you if you still want a plan, but my guess is this is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things that you should be all in for....
  • Ok.  I will heed your advice and check back later to see about stepping back in.  I'll be sure to take bands, walk (maybe some easy jogging), add yoga and stretching and certainly soak up the entirety of this amazing experience!

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Hi there, I'm back and had beyond the most amazing time in Peru, I could have ever dreamed. I hiked and hiked, and did yoga, but beyond that.... did zero running, biking or swimming. My lungs got a little workout since most of the hiking was between 11-15,000 feet. Not sure where I should jump back in to my training as I'm feeling quite behind.

Also to note.... I am signed up to do a half marathon April 6.

    Thanks for advice here.
  • Annelise, I feel more zen just typing to you!!!! SO JEALOUS!!! image I say we stay on track, and by that I mean you do Week 7 as best you can...don't worry about hitting targets, just do a Tuesday bike of X time, with 2 x X intervals as best you can (doesn't have to be exactly Zone 4).....let's just start to wake things up...the only thing you want to be careful with is Sunday's run -- don't want to go tooooo long! Then week 8 is a test week...that will get us some numbers...and will help to carry you into the final few weeks of the plan.

    How does that sound?
  • Sounds like a plan!  Except I dallied all week getting back to work.  I ran yesterday, finally.  Today will jump back into week 7 remaining workouts and look forward to starting again with testing next week.  Kinda like ground zero but with a new found momentum.  I'm ready to get to work.

  • No worries, you are physically behind but mentally and spiritually off the charts...the intersection will be epic! Now, to work!
