GIRO AIR ATTACK VS AERO HELMET!! What do You think?

I wonder ...... how much time will I sacrifice by racing with a GIRO AIR ATTACK helmet versus an AERO HELMET???
One thing I know for sure: the GIRO AIR ATTACK is much more confortable and Head temperature seems to be significantly lower!!!
Any opinions???

  • Lower head temperature no matter what, in my book, the difference in a helmet is virtually non existent. I have not seen data that is fair and balanced as the merchants data always reflects their product.

Old man ... ha haaaa welcome to my age group.
  • Juan - back in 2007, when I went from a standard helmet to an aero helmet with a tail, I experienced 2-4% faster bike times at all distances over the same courses from the previous year (sprint/oly/HIM/IM).

This year, I switched from my aero helmet to the Giro Air Attack. I saw no difference (actually, 1 minute faster) in my IM Arizona bike time, a course where, due to the ideal temps, I have always been very consistent in my times. I used the magnetic visor.

  • It seems lots of people are switching to the Attack and other compact aero helmets. I just did a HITS iron distance in Naples last weekend with temps in the high 80's, full sun, bad head and cross winds with a giro aero helmet. By the end of the bike my neck was killing me and my head was way too hot. On the head wind the helmet was awesome. In hotter races over heating is my issue. From what ive seen the only difference is the comfort. Ive had similar results as Al when i switched from a standard bike helmet to the aero but Im gonna try the attack this season.
  • My first "aero" helmet was the Air Attack.  I like it because I don't have to worry that I am creating drag if I move my head around like a traditional tail helmet would.  It is a super comfortable helmet that I wear for regular riding as well.

  • I was considering an investment in an aero helmet this year.

My current road helmet is near the end of its lifespan too. I was not looking forward to financing two helmet purchases in one year.

If the Air Attack can kill two birds with one stone, then we have a winner.
  • Interesting video on the R&D that went into creating the Air Attack.

  • Most importantly, which color would look best with EN kit???

    White/Silver

    Black/Silver

    Black/Red

  • @Brent I have the black and red one so I say uh Black and red!
  • Use this at my friend's shop here in ATL and get 15% off on the Giro.Use tsf15 and get 15% off  plus free shipping! www.sportsfactoryproshop.com
  • @Brent ..... definitely BLACK & RED!!!! (until the custom made EN red version comes up for sale ???).

    Tks all for the input!!!

  • I was going to buy the Air Attack until I read a post by Jim at ERO sports that the LG Course tested faster, plus it looks more like a traditional road helmet. If you haven't heard of this guy, he often posts on ST and does independent wind tunnel testing for pro's. I intend to stick with my Wingspan for racing unless it is really hot. Either way, I suspect the difference between these helmets is minimal.
