2010 March Madness Half Marathon Race Report

As usual it was great to see some of Team EN out at March Madness.  Mike B, His Wife Vickie, Hayes, and Karin all raced.  Bill McKee came out to support us.  Theresa and Abigial didn't make it so I don't have any pictures to share.

My goal was simply to beat my PR on this corse on 1:20:06 ... I ended up going 1:17:43 (5:56 Pace) which was good enough for 7th overall and 4th in my age group.

Not good enough for a VDOT bump, but it did confirm that I am still training at the right zones and I have a feeling as soon as I get on a flat course I will set a new PR and get a new VDOT.

Here are the numbers, not my best passing, but there was not a single flat mile out there.

  • you are a machine....CONGRATS! Sorry I missed you all.
  • Dang Matt- that new baby isn't slowing you down a bit! Congratulations!
  • Wow Matt! Pretty awsesome race & stats dude - can't imagine being able to achieve that kind of pace for 13miles! Congrats!
  • Nice job, Matt! Congratulations on your course PR. And hanging out with Boston runner dude must be good for your mojo.
  •  Wish I had caught some action pictures of everyone running. But here are some post-race photos.

Despite our 55 degree days last week, we had 2 inches of snow Saturday and it was quite chilly on Sunday morning. Pretty challenging conditions because in addition to the hills the wind was blowing across the snow and keeping it cold. The guys all did great. Congrats to Karin and Vicki too

  • Brrrrrrrrrrr that looks cold!
  • Great run! Way to negative split. A 5:56 pace = 4th in your AG...Really?! Did Kenyans and Ryan Hall show up at this race?!
  • Thanks Everyone!

I did find two pictures today to share.  At least my form looks decent in the second picture

  • How do you like the Zoot shoes?

How do you like the Zoot shoes?

    Love them ...

I have been running about 80% of the time for the last 6 weeks in the TT2.0's.  Stupid me decided to go for a 10 mile sockless run the first day I had them and i got a blister and cut.  Since then I have worn socks most of the time with those shoes, mainly because it is cold out, but I have run sockless a few times without any further issues.

The other 20% of the time I have been running in the race 2.0 and energy 1.0.  I like the race 2.0 the most so far.  It fits me just a little better than the TT, is lighter, and I run in them sockless.  I would be and was planning on racing in these this year even if I was not supposed by them.

The energy 1.0 is a little heaver but has the barefoot liner and quick laces.  I like it, but I probably wont run in them much as I'm trying to get used to always being in mimimalist shoes.  This and the new energy 2.0 shoe is good for someone who wants a little more cushioning like you would find in a typical running shoe.

I also have a pair of the tempo 2.0 that I ran in once so far, it is basically the same shoe as the TT2.0, except is has a stiffer section of the outsole to provide more support and therefore it is targeted to folks that run in support shoes.  I have ran in netrual shoes for years now, so this doesn't seem to be the shoe for me.  I actually really like the red and black color of them though.

I'm really looking forward to getting a pair of the new speeds and should have them soon.

BTW, if anyone has questions about the Zoot shoes let me know as I'm going to San Diego this weekend and meeting with the Zoot team.

I feel so bad for you.  Seriously, how could Zoot expect you and Theresa to have to make so much room for all of those free shoes!  The gall of them.

Hope you're enjoying the ride 'cause you deserve it after of all your hard work....have a great time in San Diego.
