  • First on the thread, but probably last on race day!

I'm Rich, this is my third 70.3.  My last HIM was a 6:35 (compared to a 7:01 for my first one), and I am planning to break the 6 hour mark on this race.  All last year, I fought Achilles tendinitis and wasn't able to run much.  Now I am healthy and hoping to have a faster run than 2:57 (not a fun way to spend 3 hours).  I also boogered execution twice, with poor nutrition and bike power spikes leading to severe cramping on the run legs of both races.  The knowledge available in da Haus has really helped me be much more prepared for this event than for my first two.

See you in training and out on the course!

  • Hey guys!
David Leventhal here. I'll be 40 years old in March and I'm from Dallas, TX. This will be my 2nd HIM. I got into triathlons last year...did a handful of sprints in the spring & summer & finished the year with Austin 70.3. Trained with EN for the Austin raced and finished in 5:19 - was really thrilled with how prepared I felt based on my training and the guidance I'd received through EN.

The primary reason I picked this race is that it's the first one on the IM calendar after my 40th birthday (which is on March 18th). I told myself I wanted to enter the 40's full force and figured this would be a fun way to do it! I'll roll right from this race into training for IMCDA in June.

My wife and I are staying at the Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort and would love to meet some of my EN teammates. Looking forward to racing with you all!

  • Hi,
I'm Peter. I got into Triathlon last year as well and coincidentally doing pretty much the same races as David. I am also racing with my coworker Jon who is also on EN. I did my first HIM back in October at Austin. I did 5:25 which I was thrilled with. I guess my goal for Oceanside is to beat that time! I started off 2014 by stepping up my game and getting a tri-bike, aero-helmet, and a powertap wheel with disc cover. I ended up racing Austin with a bum knee but I am now feeling really good and look forward to a strong 2014 season!
  • Hello racers,
My name is Andrea Rossi and I hope I will be able to participate at this upcoming race. I'm an imported Sandieguite (Sandiegan?) so this race will be very close to my playground. The problem is...I still don't know if I'll have the strength to compete. About three weeks ago I had appendectomy, and although the surgery was uneventful, I developed a serious post-surgery infection. I was hospitalized for nearly 2 weeks, and I'm still receiving daily intravenous antibiotics that suck the life out of me. Going on a 30 minute walk is more fatiguing than running a marathon! Thankfully I'm on a path to recovery, but progress is so slow it's almost not tangible. One of the more painful lesions is near my liver and it somehow prevents from taking full deep breaths. I'm optimistic that I'll eventually be stronger than ever, but I must learn to be more patient throughout this healing process.
My initial goal for the race was 4:40 or less, but now I'll be happy if I'll be able to cross the finish line.
I truly hope to see you out there and wish all of you a 15 minute PR!

  • Hi there.  I'm Harry.  I'm in Pasadena CA, and I'm 48.  2013 was my first year doing triathlons, or any sort of cardio work for that matter.  I did a few sprints and two olys.  Oceanside will be my first HIM!  I've got a tri bike on order, but it won't be here until mid February.  I'm not sure if I'll have time to get comfortable on it for this race, seeing as I've never ridden one before!  Can't wait!

    Harry

  • @Harry What kind of bike are you getting??
  • Speed Concept, based on a fitting with Jim Manton and loving my Trek road bike, and good relationship with the local dealer.  I've got an old hand injury (computer programmer) that makes DI2 really really useful, but to get Ultegra DI2 I had to go the Project One custom route, which took a little longer than expected.

  • Nice bike! I went to Jim as well.
