Season plan question

If my AA race is IMKY and I'm currently training for New Orleans 70.3, when should I switch to the IM plan?  I was thinking I would finish the HIM plan, then do two weeks of transition/recovery.  Then do 4 weeks of the OS plan, followed by a 12 IM plan.  This will be my first IM.  I was also thinking that after the two week transition, I could load up the 20 week IM plan, and just do the last 16 weeks of it.  Thoughts?

  • Hey bud - did you end up doing that race this past weekend?

My thought would be that option B is going to be better for you - jump into week 16 and don't look back!
  • Either one works, but I think Option B will be a little easier logistically (or it would be for me) to just keep on that same basic weekly schedule (long run on Thurs, long rides on Sat/Sun). Switching back to Tues/Wed rides and no swimming would wig me out and by the time I adjusted to that schedule I'd have to switch again.
  • Thanks guys. Yea, I raced. The weather ended up being great. This year, I finally feel like I've had a breakthrough with my running. I ended up doing a 22:30 5k at the end, which is really fast for me. I had a final sprint to the end with one of my training partners and I ended up edging him out image. You should have joined us.
