Hey Coach Rich

Not sure if this is a Question for you or Coach P so, I asked both...sorry for the double tapping you guys.  I'm running Boston for the first time this year. After the Swim Camp, I'd like to maintain my bike fitness while training for Boston. Currently, I'm not that strong on the bike (TrainerRoad FTP is 171).  My season plan has the Run Focus (wks 3-6) and then the MP (wks 7-12) and I'm afraid I'll lose a lot of my bike fitness by the time I start training for IMMT.  Is there a plan or hack to a plan that can maintain my bike fitness while training for Boston?

Also, I'm one of those guys who have been swimming 2x/wk during OS (e.g. not a fast swimmer).  Since the Swim Camp is designed for folks who haven't been swimming for a few months, is it ok to keep doing my Masters Swims but increase to 3x/wk and follow the other bike/run workouts in the Swim Camp?

Thanks,

Derrek

Well, I'd say this is a demonstration of why we don't like to see athletes do marathons in a triathlon season, because at some point marathon training and the desire to build/maintain bike strength become mutually exclusive (sorta). I recommend you reach out to Patrick in the Marathon Forum re how to modify his marathon plan to better suit your needs. And since you've been swimming during the OS, I don't think you need to formally switch over to the Swim Camp training plan. So I suggest you move from the OS plan to the Run Focus Plan to the Marathon training plan, skipping Swim Camp.

  • Thanks for the feedback/advice, Coach! I was actually registered for Boston before joining EN but I do understand why it's not good to mix the two.

    Thanks,

  • Coach Rich,

I didn't see a forum for this and wasn't sure where to post but I was wondering if you can do a swim analysis of my videos and give me some things to work on. My T-pace is 1:50 per 100 yds and I would like to get more efficient. Below are links to videos (4 different views) in my dropbox. Please redirect if this is the wrong place.

    Thanks,
    Derrek
