Jen Datwyler's Macro

Hi Rich,

I am finishing the NOV OS this week and am supposed to go into GET FASTER then drop into IRONMAN for last 12 weeks prior to CDA.

I am back running regularly ( up to 1.5 hrs) but at a slower than normal pace due to issues with Plantar Fascitis. I am able to keep up with my run frequency and duration, but have problems when I try to add speed.

I am wondering if I should do the IRONMAN plan for 20 weeks instead of the GET FASTER plan. In previewing the plans it looks like the IRONMAN plan has more volume up front than the GET FASTER. My thought is since I am not doing much speed stuff anyway and I have the time to put in the volume, would that benefit me more?

Currently my longest ride is 3 hrs ( with the intervals included) and longest run is 1.5 hrs. I am still "bumping" up the pace when prescribed, but not to the paces that my last run test indicated.

I also changed my race schedule to include ST. GEORGE 70.3 instead of Napa.

Still trying to KQ at CDA....

    Hi Jen,

    • I still recommend you stay with the GF plan, as I think you're bike will really benefit from the lower volume, high intensity work.
    • Sounds like you'll have to make modifications to the runs, in whatever training plan you do, and that's completely fine. My guidance to you would be to build up the GF long run to 90', at whatever intensity allows you to do that safely.

So the short answer is that if you were in the GF or IM plan you'd need to make modifications to the run anyway (again, that's 100% what you should be doing) so I'd rather have you in the GF vs IM plan because it will better for your cycling...and you're still sooooo far out from IMCDA.

  • Thanks Rich,

I will stick to the GET FASTER plan.

Saw sports med doc today. Fascia is NOT torn. No stress fracture either. WHEW! He gave me an injection of lidocaine and saline ( ultrasound guided). Hoping for improvement.

Thanks for the quick reply... CDA does not seem "soooooo far out" to me!

  • PF is a bitch to heal. I had it in '01 after IMCali. Good luck!
  • Hi again!

Not a macro question, but I am looking to buy a wheel cover for my HED Jet 9 (2010) wheel. Do I order through you?

No, just contact WB directly and tell them you are with EN. Ask for Benny.

  • Hi Rich,

Looking ahead to my Ironman plan... You have me in Get Faster until Sept 1. Then I am switching to Ironman advanced for the next 10 weeks.  I saw an "Ironman Advanced-minimalist", and the regular "Ironman Advanced". Which one should I use?

    Hey Jen,

We _just_, like this morning, published those minimalist plans, so you're the first to find them (gold star for you!)  Let us put together some guidance on our intent for these plans and publish that to the team.

Short answer is that we took the existing plans, cut down the volume, move some stuff around, etc. IOW, these are solutions for people who want our lowest volume IM training solution. More later, thanks!
