Swim Watches

Since my pool does not have a clock I figured I would get a watch, I see the Pool Mate which helps you keep track of laps but I was wondering if anyone has one and likes it. If not what watch if any do you swim with.

  • I have the PoolMate.  I find it very helpful for counting laps and it also shows your time for the distance you just swam for each interval.  It's pricey though and if all you really need is to see your split time for the sets, you could get a Timex waterproof watch with a lap counter for a lot cheaper.  Here's my post on the Pool Mate if you want more info:

  • I've been using a Timex Ironman for 10+ years, 2-3 times a week. It's easy to get lap splits, even if my rest time is only 10 seconds. Also easier to see than pool side clocks. The things are rock solid water proof, and the battery will last for 5+ years. Should be in the $30-40 range for a 50-100 lap model without any fancy features.

  • I'm also using the PoolMate and I love it.
  • +2 for the Timex Ironman. I have yet to run out of splits, the lap button is easy to find, and it is very lightweight.

  • I bought a Timex Ironman this winter just for pool swimming. Made sure the split button was the only one on the face and not on the side as are set up and it is hard to get to when in a hurry.
  • +3 on the Timex Ironman although I don't bother with lap splits. Just do it and forget the data collection.
