USAT National Long Course Duathlon Championship, Cary, NC

Anyone in EN "du-ing" this race and have any insight on it?

  • I lived in Cary for 11 years from 1993-2004. No info on the race though.
  • At Bob - I am trying to talk myself out of it. I have too many trips on the plate this year already.
  • I've raced Cary LC DU the past 3-4 years but it hasn't been the National Championship.  It's a good race in a nice location based out of a large baseball park complex.  It's a 2-loop with some hills - definitely not flat.  The bike is rolling but nothing major.  I've done a handful of FSS races over the past few years and they always do a nice job.  I'm curious to see if anything changes considering it's the Nat championship.  I raced the Blackwater DU a few years back when it had the Nat Championship tag and it was pretty basic - not what I had expected from a Nat Championship but a perfectly acceptable duathlon.
  • I broke down and signed up yesterday because it was almost sold out and the registration pace was really picking up. They had a limit of 250 for the long course du and 250 for the sprint du. I was number 231 to sign up and the only had 32 in the sprint. Then, about an hour later, they took 100 spots from the sprint and gave them to the long course race, so now there are over a 100 spots left. There are already 20 guys in my age two of whom I know to be fast. I have a lot of work to do!
  • Joel - so are you doing it again this year?
  • Yep - it's one of my "go-to" early season races for seeing where I'm at.
  • See ya there ... and with that ridiculous Vdot I know you will be way ahead so please save some grub for me!
