Name your Spring Races

OK,

I am certainly not Joe (who seems to start many of these forum threads) But my spring race is an '"off brand" 70.3 in Charleston SC on April 19th. I just finished the NOS and am in Swim Camp and then move into my HIM plan. I am just wondering who else out there has a Spring half that does not fall under one of the named race forums. Name your race and Join in the conversation.

  • Yep, see my list below. Should be a half-dozen ENrs at the Grand Rapids Tri which is also the USAT Long Couse Triathlon National Championship. My left shoulder is starting to come around and I expect to be back in the pool no later than 3 March. Failing that, I may sub in the USAT Long Course Duathlon National Championship in Cary, NC on 17 May.
  • My 16 yr. old daughter (17 this summer) did her first tri. last year...a sprint that also has a Olympic and HIM the same morning (this is in Springfield Illinois). She's going to do the Olympic this year, my next youngest (15 this year) will do the sprint...her first....and I'll do the HIM. My HIM will be in place of the Muncie (Indiana) HIM that I've done the last couple years. In addition to having my daughters participate with me, I liked the "grassroots" vibe at the race last year, reminded me of doing tri's in the 80's. And it's also a lot closer than Muncie
  • I've got a 70.3 in St Pölten, Austria in May. Think I'm probably the only one on here that will be there.. :-)

  • @Paul- March seems like that should give you time to get your swim going by June. Good luck.

@Steve - Sounds like a family affair for sure. What is the date of that race? Sweet plan to have the kids do the shorter races so they will be at the finish to cheer for your finish. image

@Jen - I would Love to be there for your race in Austria but May is a tough month at my house with kids graduating and coming home from college. But we will send Mojo long distance.

It looks like we may have a mix of training plans here. Did everyone do the NOS and who is moving into their HIM plan and who is going into the get faster plan?
And is anyone doing anything different from a training perspective?
  • @Ralph..Yea I'm, really looking forward to it, I think it will be a really fun day. The date is July 26th, so I'm in JOS now, will do 2 wks of swim camp, and then start a HIM plan. After the HIM I'll do 2 wks unstructured before starting the plan for IMFL on Nov. 1st........after IMFL the whole family gets treated to a Disney cruise image
  • I'm doing Auburn (World's Toughest Half) May 18. Same schedule as you, and transitioning into the HIM plan!
  • I'll be doing a couple of road races this spring (maybe a 10k and a half mary), followed by Quassy Half June 1 , followed by the EN IMLP camp, followed by the KICIT Oly (local race) - All this leading up to IMLP..my first full dist race!
  • @Steve - Like you, I have a half in the spring and my full distance race in the fall (October) I plan to do a few sprints in the middle of the summer just for chuckles. My kids are too old for Disney now so If I take them to a race, it is going to COST ME! They are pushing for IM Spain next year for just that reason.

@Jonathan - We are on the same schedule but you threw in another Half in the middle. Strong.

@Brad - This fall will be my first full distance race also. I did all short course last year. Looks like a good plan.

Looks like we have a nice group. I look forward to following everyone's training after we get out of swim camp ( or JOS)
Good Luck and everyone stay healthy.
  • At Jen - St Polten should easily be the most scenic of the bunch. I did IM Kalmar last year and stayed a few nights in Copenhagen before taking the train to Sweden. I had been to Tivoli Gardens many years ago and had a long standing promise to take my wife...promise fulfilled, and it was fantastic!
  • June isn't really spring, but that's my HIM this year-Toughman Arizona.
Early season is Bataan Death March Marathon in March. That is a tough one! But way cool as they have survivors of the actual Bataan there to talk with athletes and greet at the finish. They won't be alive much longer, so something to think about doing soon.
@Ralph-I see you are doing B2B...me too! It'll be my first IM. I've done three Ironman branded 70.3 and and off brand 100. I think I really like the smaller venues. Hence, Toughman instead if a branded race. Although it would be really cool to hear that dude tell me I'm an Ironman when I finish! But I'll know...
  • @Ralph - thanks, long distance mojo is cool... :-) I'm doing the JOS plan now, followed by swim camp then into the HIM plan.

@Brad - IMLP will be my first full distance as well. First timers unite! Have you always lived in Ridgefield? I grew up in South Salem/Katonah so we would have been practically neighbors. :-)

@Paul - Yeah, it should be scenic alright. Hopefully that will be enough to distract me from my fear of downhill right hand turns on the bike or else it's going to be a very long day. How did you like IM Kalmar? Haven't met many people who have done that one now that we have a "real" IM here.
  • @Leslie - I look forward to meeting you in Wilmington if not before. I also considered doing an IM branded race for my first full distance race but I figure I'm doing it for me and not for them. Besides I have friends in the area who are scoping out sites for post race festivities. First things first , Right?
  • @ Jen - Kalmar was fantastic and had superb crowds. Of course, from an American tourist point of view anytime I race in Europe it is a great experience. If Copenhagen had been branded an IM race instead of Challenge originally, I probably would have done that one for simpler logistics. But now I've been to both cities so my next European race will be something different (I've also raced IM Regensburg in Germany and ITU Long Course in Almere, Holland).
