My Cycling Shoes Stink

My cycling shoes smell awful. I clean them with some laundry detergent and ammonia but after 3 or 4 weeks they wreak again. Does anyone have any tips to make that smell stay away longer?

I've also used foot powder and even balled up sheet type fabric softener and stuffed the shoes overnight. This is more of a temporary solution.

Unfortunately, if you've pee'd in your shoes during a race, I find it hard to ever get that stink out of the shoe! Hopefully this was not done on the trainer

Thanks Brad. I need to enhance my forum search skills! The shoes have been pee'd in but I haven't been desperate enough to do it on the trainer...yet!

I use Mirazyme to get pee smell out of my wetsuits (both tri and SCUBA). It does a pretty good job, and no reason it wouldn't work on shoes.

Febreze Sport seems to get rid of the stink. My wife says my shoes do not smell like pee anymore. ;-)

Thanks guys. For the record although I pee on the bike I clean my shoes right after the race and it's not a lingering urine smell

Soak the insoles in white vinegar or put tea bags inside the shoes. Both have worked well to get the fink out as well as putting in the wash with a few towels.

Time to get new kicks, brother. Life is to short....

Another idea is "Freeze them and Fabreze 'em". Hit them with Fabreze and then overnight in the freezer. The cold will kill the bacteria causing the smell. At least that's what I have been told.
