New School Aero Helmet - need your help!

What do the gear heads in the house say about helmets lately? I am ready to move out of my Giro Advantage 2 (long pointy end in the back) to something easier (less pointy).

I am thinking Giro Air Attack or Louis G. P-09..... What say you? What's the data say? But, ultimately, which one will make me look more badass? image

  • If I would have a choice these where my favourites:

    - Casco SPEEDairo (http://www.bike24.de/1.php?product=55831;dbp=1;page=1;content=8;navigation=1;menu=1000,5,70;mid=53;pgc=0)
    - Rudy Project Wing57 (http://www.rudyproject.com/products/helmets/wing57.html)

The LG. P-09 also looks great!
  • I should have my LG P-09 in a couple of days.
  • If only I'd been wearing this, I would have saved myself $30,000 of dental work. It's what I'm skiing in these days. (Not saying your mouth is your most precious asset, Dino )
  • Lg PO9 for sure. Buy the Air Attack if you need an extra salad bowl around your house.
  • The LG P.09 does appear fast I the wind tunnel. BUT, I have a Rudy Project Wing57 on order. I love how my current wingspan fits me and especially love how I do NOT overheat in it at all. The Wing57 basically keeps those things I like but chops off the tail and makes it a bit more aero in crosswinds and when my head is looking down like I often do.
  • At John ... You need to read the entire aero camp thread on ST. The Wing 57 did ok, but according to the testers, it did not live up to the hype.
  • Amazing that my Wingspan is now "old school".
    Really amazing.
  • lol. Next year it will vintage. Year after that, it will be quaint...
  • So is the Giro Advantage 2 now considered old school or just to be avoided because L.A. is known to have worn?
  • Just to clarify ... Helmets are personal and the fastest is the one that fits you best and has the lowest drag numbers ON YOU. Without access to a wind tunnel or drag testing equipment at the velodrome, you are HOPING that manufacturer wind tunnel data will hold true for you. At the aero camp, the LG P09 was fastest for 80% of the testers, and no other helmet scored that well. That's a solid betting average when you plunk money down because some aero helmets on some people will INCREASE drag.

That said they had a Giro A2 at aero camp and it "tested overall well" per one camper, and was actually the best for that participant. Like most helmets, it tested fastest without the visor.

And don't mistake 'new school' for being faster!   There's still good reason to keep a longtail helmet of yesterday, and 'current product line' does not always equate to 'better.'
