Shoe wear for return from Plantar Fasciitis
So I'm recovering from Plantar Fasciitis. Getting better and may return to running in a week or so. I do have IMTX coming up. I usually run in a Saucony 8mm drop shoe. Just thinking that when I return should I go to a more cushiony type shoe (at least temporarily to transition back). Options would/could be to go to: 1. Hoka shoe -or- 2. Put a get cushion in my current shoe..
Thoughts if any one has had experience with this issue....
(BTW I don't need treatment advice....just the shoe wear question....thanks.)

I, too, am recovering from PF.
I am wearing my orthotics in my Saucony Kinvara 2 and Kinvara 4's (my doc told me neutral shoes best along with my orthotics, and I've had a lot of success with the Kinvara line), but I am considering popping the orthotics in the Hokas for some more cushioning, and see how that goes.
I tried another Saucony style (Cortana 3) that had more cushioning, but I got blisters from them. I don't know if was from the shoes, the socks I wore, or the completely new combo...
Good luck with IMTX!
Let me know what you do with shoe decision.

In the same boat so to speak... I am wearing the Hokas exclusively. No orthotics. I tried orthotics in my mizunos and asics and they seemed to agitate the fascia in another location. I have a second pair of Hokas I wore around all the time. I wear scrubs to work, so it was fine . The only time I was not in the Hokas was when sleeping and then I was in the splint. Ironically rest did not seem to improve the situation. I am back to running conservatively. Hokas are working for me so far.
My 2 Cents--
I had about a 10-15 year history of shin splints + PF that came and went. For me, it resolved after 2 years' rest (you don't want to hear that!) and a switch from a history of Nike and Saucony shoes to Brooks. I run in the Adrenelines. In the last 3 years i have done 2 HIM, 1 IM, 1 marathon, and 4? HM with slowly increased mileage and increased pace with NO pf and NO shin splints. I went through at least 5 pairs of orthotics, PT, and even wore some sweet night time PF braces to bed for 6 months. My guess is you need to find a shoe that fits with your geometry, Brooks is it for me, I will never run in a different brand. Unless they go OOB. In the meantime ice bath after running helps, elevate, good sox, etc.... but until you get the right footwear it'll probably come back. You could actually conisder less cushioning / more 'barefoot' style shoes as well, but that may be a BIG change and give you new problems. Good luck!
