Glute and core days

Hi everyone,

I have some major glute imbalance that I've been rectifying during the NOS and swim camp.

I'd like to keep doing the exercises (single legs stuff and lots of bridges) to make sure that biking and running aren't jeopardized by imbalance.

For those of you doing (or will do) the 20 weeks IM plans, what day(s) would be appropriate to add glute AND core exercises in.  I haven't done any core workouts in a long time though.

Would Monday and Friday morning be a good choice considering I'll be doing the swim workouts at noon?  Or will that tire my lower body too much and affect the swim?

  • Hey Thai!
I do my core/glute work either before or after all of my runs. It just works out for me logistically. I won't do it on my "rest days" as I want to completely "rest" on those days. I even like to "rest" my legs on swim only days. But I don't think there is any special rule... But I do believe continuing the core work is way more important than most people believe.
  • I do core exercises 3x per week but a set of glue-specific exercises 6x/week for 10 minutes before bed.

THAT'S the way to get a good night's sleep...just glue yourself to the bed!
  • Thank you John & Matt.  That's really helpful.

@Al, good catch!  I had to re-read Matt's answer to see what you meant.

  • I have been struggling with working this in too. I need a really good routine that I can stick to. @ Matt or anyone else that has a set system, care to share your routines? I'm intrigued by your glute routine before bed...what does that entail?
