Lisa Beaser - Season Update
Hi Rich:
I submitted a new survey to include the La Jolla 1/2 marathon in April. I chatted with Patrick about this first. The 1/2 is not an A race, but more having some fun with my sister and friends while visiting La Jolla. I don't want it to negatively impact my biking for my A race and first Intermediate distance on 6/22. I will keep a close handle on how I am doing on the bike, and reach out to you or Patrick if I have concerns.
Thanks.

It won't have an impact on your training and will be a good goal for you. Half marathons are excellent races, as a target for your long run training. Go ahead and race it, unless you have an agreement with your sisters to not race it? La Jolla is a beautiful area. Bring a wetsuit and swim in the cove, if you can.
Awesome! And, maybe I will try to race it. She beat me by 10 minutes in my first half in December. It would be fun to beat her since she is 10 years my junior. Awesome idea about the wetsuit! Thanks!
Hi Lisa,
Here is your Season Road Map below:
Notes:
Re the half marathon: I believe that Patrick has a wiki article about how to modify the OS plan for a half marathon. It should be in the Running section of the wiki.
Thanks Coach! I found the wiki article and it is very helpful. I am laughing because I was so worried about biking the hills in my oly tri and I just checked out the race course of La Jolla - holy hills! I think I will scale back my goals a a wee bit :-) Back to finishing and having fun! Thanks again.
Yeah, La Jolla is pretty much a hole on the coast with cliffs and hills all around it. Back in the Day, when I would ride from my place to San Diego (about 135-140mi) we would avoid LJ because it comes at about mile 125 and is a bitch to climb out of
Hi Coach - Well, my plan to get my races in early before the chaos of summer work schedules took over failed miserably. I had to travel in week 17 of SC and missed a few workouts and it went downhill from there despite my best efforts. I missed my 6/8 sprint tri and spent all of the past week (week 19) on travel w/o the ability to do more than two short runs and a swim. As it stands today, I will be missing my A-race scheduled for next sunday. At this point I don't have any alternate races picked out but am hoping to keep the mile swim in August and will look for a late season race. In the meantime, what is the best plan for me stay on that will at least keep in some sort of shape, but provide me with the greatest flexibility as work and travel heat up. I did manage to get my La Jolla half marathon in! Holy hills!
Hey Lisa,
Sorry to hear that but at least you wrangled a trip to La Jolla out of it . That stretch from Del Mar south through LJ and into SD is very nice.
Our Short Course and Get Faster training plans are great general purpose solutions so start with those. When you figure out a race schedule, please take the Triathlon Season RoadMap Survey here and I'll plan it out for you.
Yeah, a week in La Jolla after a long winter in Buffalo is nothing to complain about And, although I am missing my races, I have had solid training since January OS without injury and am not sitting on the sidelines. I will work with the SC and Get Faster plan until I get life figured out and update my Season Roadmap. Thanks!
