Mark Lane's Richmond Rox Race Report

Finally got my outseason half marathon done today, and I really didn't have the day I was looking for. Even though I'm only a vdot 35, my longer training runs had me real close to running a 2:00 half. I did make some tactical mistakes today. First, oatmeal is off of my pre-race meal list-enough said. Secondly, this was a very difficult course, and probably not a good one for an aggressive PR. Thirdly, the longer training runs were done when the temperature was in the 30's, today it was 70 degrees. I still went after the 2 flat, but with the difficulty of the course, and the heat my body is not acclimated to, I faded badly the last 3 or 4 miles and ended up with a 2:08. If I had executed a little smarter, and respected the conditions, I may have done a little better, but I don't really regret trying for a 2 flat. This is all part of the education!
