Steve Culver micro thread

I am in week 8 of the OS Beginner Plan, and I am running in a 10 mile race on Sunday, March 2nd.  Can I just substitute this for the 60 minute run that is in the plan??  It will take me about 1-1/2 hours to complete.

  • @Steven, YES!! Maybe refer to the Run section of the Wiki (under Resources) for some pacing guidance? You can hack the Half Marathon guidance to be 2 miles, 6 miles, 2 miles...
  • I am in week one of swim camp.  For Saturday's bike workout, do I still do the WU that I was doing in the OS Beginner plan or is the WU listed the only WU I am supposed to do?
  • @Steven, stick with your consistent warm up...if it ain't broke.... image
  • Starting Monday, I am on week 11 of the HIM Beginner plan.  I am running in a 1/2 Marathon on Saturday, 4/5.  How should I adjust this week's schedule to accommodate this 13.1 mile run?

  • Replace Thursday run with a 75' to 90' ABP ride...Friday off...sat race!...Sunday is as much of Sat bike as you can...be sure to warm up!!
  • I want to add a couple of races to my schedule, so I need to get some concept of what the future will hold. Already on my schedule is Ironman Eagleman on 6/8 which is my A-race. In July, I would like to do Musselman 70.3 distance on 7/13 and in September, I am planning to the do the new Ironman Maryland 140.6 on 9/20. Thoughts? Is this too much? Should I change anything in regards to plans now? What will I switch to when you want me to switch? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  • Steve that's a Macro question for Coach Rich -- he does the season planning stuff. I will ask him to come over here and take a look at your question.
  • Rough travel schedule the next two weeks. I am currently in HIM Beginner week 14. I am going to be unable to swim or bike tomorrow (Wednesday) through Sunday of this week. I will be able to run but probably not over 1 to 1-1/2 hours each day. Next week (week 15), I am fine on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but unable to swim or bike Thursday through Sunday again. Nothing I can do about it, so any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • Steven - it's all good, we can fix this. :-)

For this week, you can run 45 minutes a day with some pick ups at the end, just like strides. The only key workout we have here is your long run. You can do that on any one of those days.

Let's plan on swimming twice at the beginning of next week you pick the days. My guess is you do your 45 minute run on Sunday, so Monday can be your bike interval workout from Wednesday plus a swim. Tuesday could be swim only, maybe a bit longer than written. Then Wednesday is as much of the Saturday or Sunday ride -- as much as you can possibly get in. Thursday's a 45 minute run, Friday or Saturday is a longer run, the other days are 45 minute runs or day off if needed! :-)
  • Not 100% yet, but I may have to go out of town this weekend. I am in week 13 of the IM Int. plan. What should I do if I cannot swim or bike on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?
  • I would put the Thursday long run to the weekend and drop another ride on Thursday as you can - ABP would be okay. Friday off, long run on Sat. Sunday is bonus run if you can. Then Monday is swim only...a bit longer if you can. And then Tuesday back at it.
  • Upcoming changes to my IM intermediate plan in week 17: I am going to be unable to do the workout on Saturday (40 min run & 300 min bike). How should I adjust? I could do this workout on Sunday, and I am off Monday, so could do a long one then too. Let me know. Thanks.
  • Another issue just came up at work that I have an out-of-town meeting on Thursday, so I will need to shift my 3 hour run that day as well. Please help me with all these changes. Thanks.
  • Got you on the text line!! Way to adapt!! :)
