The challenge is simple:

1. Sign up for your local St. Paddy`s Day 5km road race.

2. Generate points for running distance, at or above TP, wearing a costume, drinking green beer and more.

  • I kissed the Blarney Stone so that should count for something (have a picture of that!)

We have Johnny's Running of the Green 5 miler on the 15th, do I get extra points? image

    Beidh orainn spraoi!
  • What are the dates? A local org here is doing a "Trinity" challenge.. Three St. Paddy's Day 5ks (March 9, March 15 & March 16)
  • The weekend of St. Paddy's day is when we want you to run Kim.
  • Sweet! I am doing a sprint reverse triathlon that day!
  • I read that initially as a 5k swim challenge and had a mini panic attack. Run 5k, sure!
  • @Elizabeth, I kissed the Blarney Stone just this last December and none of my FIVE friends even bothered to take a pic! And I wasn't going to pay $20+ USD to buy their silly pic. Oh well, maybe next time!

My 5k is on Saturday 3/15, then a day of green beer and wandering local streets and house parties. It's one of my favorite traditions here in Dallas.
  • Shamrock marathon in Virginia Beach anyone?
  • I'm in the "100% Irish For The Day" 10-miler next Saturday - can I count that as triple plus points?
  • Green Beer Points YES!
  • I think the closest thing we have to a St. Paddy's 5k is the 3 legged race where you run from pub to pub here :-) Does that get extra points if we make it 5k tied to a partner?
  • I'm in!! Just registered the hubby and I for the Max O'Hartford! This will also be my run test. Oh boy!!

  • Regretfully, I must withdraw. image I saw an orthopedic doc today who diagnosed my foot pain as "classic" plantar fasciitis. No running - swim, bike, pool run (maybe I could hack the 5K challenge and do it in a pool?) and weights as long as I don't irritate the plantar. So bummed b/c I planned to do this with my 13 year old daughter who planned on being my ace photographer and videographer! Hope everyone has a super fun time!
  • Doing a 5km run in the water would be awesome. Your daughter could still take pics and video tap you. Sorry to hear about the injury. Hope it heals quickly. Think there is a thread in the medical forum about this injury. Might want to visit there.
  • Turby Wright won't mention that he came in 7th overall at a local 5K yesterday (out of 322). 20:07!! Nice vDot bump:-)
  • Ran the Shamrock marathon in Virginia Beach, VA as Clark Kent and at mile 26 I peeled away the shirt to reveal my Superman costume. At the present time no pictures or video, but if I can find either will post and update the spreadsheet.

No beer afterwards, but I did have two 28 ounce margaritas. Apparently no points for margaritas, but they were delicious.
  • Did the 5k St. Patties day race yesterday. Good weather. My pace was 8 sec/km (sorry guys use metric) quicker per km but my overall time was 45 sec longer as my Garmin said I ran 5.14km...oh well I am still happy my pace improved. Good thing the race wasn't this morning as it was colder than -20C with the windchill...brrrr...spring weather please.
  • Disappointing 5k on Sat morning. Had a few shin cramps/issues from a fall a couple of weeks ago that keeps rearing its ugly head. Gotta get that fixed.

I did, however, peg my HR higher than I've ever seen, for 3.22 (what my Garmin said the 5k was) miles! I averaged 157bpm, and peaked at 167 - that's the highest I've EVER seen my HR go...EVER!
  • Ran 10 miles on the treadmill (skipped our local Detroit Corktown 5k...needed the long run as I've been short this OS and well, it was 15 degrees!) and had my best feeling run of the OS. image

Then it was home to make colcannon and irish soda bread to go with my corned beef and cabbage I had cooking for my traditional family St. Patty's day dinner / Birthday party for my son. His birthday is today (my own lucky charm!!!) He turns 17, passed his driving test Saturday and today gets his license. O.M.G.! Citizens of Troy MI, you have been warned! image
