Component Selection

Placing my order for a Trek Speed Concept tomorrow. My choice is Shimano Ultegra or SRAM Rival. Which would you choose and why?

Comments

  • I personally like the Ultegra components over the Rival! but the difference is 'marginal' at best. Are they both 11-spd? Or 10-spd?
  • I'm with John. I think Ultegra is rock solid and smooth. You should also see if you like the single lever shifting of the SRAM grouppo versus the two lever of the Shimano, I prefer the two levers so this also makes the decision easy for me. Having said that I do have Rival on my cross bike but the distances I cover on that bike are a lot shorter and even there I already swapped out the front derailleur for a Shimano part to improve front shifting.
  • I'm also with John. I have the Ultegra on my "old" Cervelo P2, and the SRAM Rival on my road bike - a Cervelo RS. Much prefer the Ultegra.

  • Thanks for comments. I'm not sure there's a material difference between the two groups, but I'm going with the Ultegra grouping. I still love my SRAM Red.

Now all I have to do is pick out my bike colors!
